COOL

Waka Waka

Friend of mine went to Haiti with Hand On Disaster Relief for a couple of weeks to help with the clean-up process. While there, another volunteer had been teaching everyone, volunteers and citizens alike, the dance to Waka Waka. He made this video to show that Haiti isn't just a hopelessly destroyed country. It's full of people who, despite having no infrastructure anymore, still work together and thrive on life.

This video made it to Shakira's front page of her website and has been featured on Haitian television, as well as multiple other places. It shows a side of Haiti most people haven't seen since the earthquake.

If you looked at all the numbers, like HDI, PPP GDP, ethnic composition, religion, and system of government, you'd swear Haiti was in Africa. It's only when you actually look at a map that you see it's not.

This video is a great example of the spirit of the Haitian people. My family along with millions of others were devasted by a massive natural desaster. Even today the streets of many cities including Leogane are strewn with rubble. It's amazing that NOTHING can break these wonderful people. Even in the face of utter disaster they can still see the joy in life. :-)

So their spirit is demonstrated in how they didn't look pissed that a bunch of white people were dancing like cheery assholes in the middle of the street?

Maybe we should teach people how to farm. or carpentry, or math.

Also, this gives me the impression that white people go to Haiti as a 'feel good' vacation.
