Rebuilding Chrissy's Face

"Most of her face was gone. there was just this gaping hole in her face where her eyes and nose and most of her mouth had been. I thought she was dead.

"Then I saw her fingers start to move..."

FYI, there's nothing graphic. You do see some footage of her disfigured face as she gets fitted for prosthesis, but for the most part she is wearing a mask. Great story, definitely worth a look.

If there was ever a reason to get behind mankind and take a tiny step back and think......... yeah, we are going to be ok... it is this. It's humans being the best we can be, even if all the questions/doubts/criticisms creep in.. just take a step back and realise how cool this is.

I do realise that I open myself up for interweb hassle, but sheet, if you cant see the good in this then i'll take tomorrow mornings coffee as black as your soul... with 2 and a cig thanks :D

Now they need to put that empty cavity she used to call a face to use! Put some motion detectors and a few servos in there so her eyes track moving objects and make her eyelids blink and BAM! people'll just think she's a burn victim!

They also have that new optical linking to the brain technology so her "eyes" could even become functional again.

So when do I get to become a robot?

my friend does this. His dad is a maxillo-facial surgeon and he creates the prostheses. Most of the patients are cancer victims who have lost their nose or ears, etcetera.

One time when I was giving him shit he showed me his drawer full of eyes. That shut me up.

He's also an MMA fighter, classic "don't judge a book by its cover" situation.

to bad they never seem to be able to get pigmentation right. the only thing that really makes the prostheses noticeable is the difference in skin color. but i suppose since skin color changes subtly constantly so it would be impossible to get it right.....
either way, an amazing story.

I was thinking the same thing. Great story and all, amazing how she's become so strong willed after the accident, but that face is pretty creepy compared to the mask.

Anyone else think "Oh, that makes sense" When you found out her husband was blind too?

Her boyfriend (at the time, pre-blind guy) stole some guns, later at a party a friend was messing around and fired at a doorway as she was walking through it. The friend and bf both did time, she was an accomplice to theft but they figured she had it bad enough already.

so now instead you've got her cold dead eyes unrelentingly starting at you, like a pair of eye print glasses.

you could wank over her face in the morning whilst she was asleep it would be like spunking on a dead woman, then she would eventually wake up and go about her day and you'd be like: wow that's weird.

They should have put in 'go to sleep' eyes, like they have in some dolls

That aside, its is truly remarkable and one of the most horrific things I've seen, that woman and her family are rightly applauded I imagine for her, and their persistence, acceptance and bravery in the face of such tragic adversity.

Well, the dude who wanted to put a camera in his one glass eye, that was pretty cool. Not sure what use that footage will be to you if you are blind in BOTH eyes though.

But, you could get one of those incredibly dangerous 2W "lightsaber" lasers and fit that in the glass eye. Especially her, she's got the cavity volume for the larger battery and all. You could light cigarettes from across the room at parties, but someone else is gonna have to aim.

that said, did the croakers really do all that great a job? i should think now, in the 21st century, with cultural vanity as out of proportion as it's ever been, that we'd be able to take this: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_25OvsirIxJg/Shzk_mefXMI/AAAAAAAAA-k/0XCJzhYR0Q8/s400/e ric_stoltz_mask.jpg

The difference being it took hours and hours in makeup to get Eric Stoltz to look like that. I'm assuming she's taking this off at night, or it's meant to be easily removable for cleaning, etc.
