Soundgasm

Many folks wondered how the Blue Devils Brass Line would sound on their new King horns. After going through a series of warm-up scales, the wondering was over.

This needs volume (and swap it to 1080i while you're at it), but be prepared for the wallpaper to peel. If you can't handle the scales, jump to about 1:03 and sit back.

I basically had a spot on Phantom Regiment when I graduated high school, but my parents wouldn't foot the bill to be in the band.

They were co-champions that year, and shit like this just makes me feel bad. :(

If you watch at the very end, they put down their instruments from left to right. Nothing to do with the sound, everything to do with how coordinated they must be.

I think those scales are actually arpeggio's. They are used to build range
and endurance for the horn players. They're also known as lip-slurs. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arpeggio

Here are some links where they throw the whole kitchen sink at ya.

Ahh, I love drum corps.

I marched in 2007 and got to see Phantoms show a few times over the summer, and this part was incredible:
They were already playing loud as shit at the end of the show, and then they start running and somehow get louder.

I marched with the tenor players who split center at BD this year (and last year). Actually one of them still owes me 30 bucks so I tell myself I helped fund his gold medal from 2009

It takes a lot of practice and coordination to do that. Very impressive.
Still didn't sound very good to me. In fact, seems kind of pointless for the amount of effort they must have put into it.
But I can appreciate how much coordination it took.

Careann - 98 Crown, also? What are the odds? Marched 4th bassdrum under Rennick that summer. Weren't you in the front ensemble? Small world.

I couldn't find the vids on Youtube, but around 99 they used to do the Duel of the Fates in the lot. That was the shit.

People keep posting videos from the Walnut, Rose Bowl, and RCC shows from this year-- I was at all three. Youtube videos do drum corps no justice. You can feel BD play the Space chord progression from across the parking lot.
