How about taking them case by case, and giving a fair trial instead of thinking that every time someone is killed, it's blatant murder?
Now, to stay on topic, and not get into some pithy dispute about all cops, when this is a very specific case; the Mehserle verdict was fair. Go cry to the jurors instead of bitching about them murderin' pigs all the time.

What you call "obvious" I call pandering for cameras.
This dude shot a kid in the back and is acting like
he and his family are the victims for being put under
so much scrutiny, even when he's acquitted of the charge
that he should have been found guilty of - murder.
"Yeah, sure, that kid's dead, but I'm just glad to be back home with my happy family again. That's what matters most."
