Axis of Awesome

Yes, we've seen a few videos like this, but it's still fun to watch and this one is fairly well put together, so...here: Evidence that all you need is four chords to be a superstar.

I think Nirvana proved all you need is 3 chords, actually. Maybe the 4th keeps the lead guitar from killing themselves.

This is MUCH more polished than the "Pachibel" video that was going around years ago, and a lot more current songs as well.

E, B, C#m, A

that's the most common, though the steps can be used in several keys though.

And by repost, I mean this same band doing this same song, not just a similar song.

I-V-vi-IV

The most used progression in pop for a good reason.

Taken from the first post from when this video was posted a while ago. Still awesome though.

Sigh, BFD, you can sing any song in that key if you transpose it. That's why most of those songs weren't exact.

I used to do a medley very much like this one in college at coffeeshops back in the 90s. I probably would have been famous if I'd put it on YouTube before all these other people.

Except for the many, many original tunes done by artists who chose not to use this same tired chord progression. Examples: Duke Ellington, Dream Theater, Medeski, Martin, and Wood, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Screaming Headless Torsos, etc. etc.

Not saying using the I-V-vi-IV chord prog. should be completely avoided, but like too much salt in a recipe, too much of that chord prog. makes me dehydrated and pukey.

Maybe Dream Theater should consider using it more often so their music sucks less.

You can so long as your song is just a bunch of open chords with no accidentals. Which is the joke.
