Way to Go, Officer

Mar. 1, 2010 - Icy roads after Friday's storm caused a near-death experience for this police officer near Cleveland Saturday. Lt. John Lambert pushed an 18-year-old out of the way before taking the hit. He suffered multiple fractures.

He hurled that boy over the rails. We all saw it. The fact that he was subsequently crushed by an automobile is coincidental justice.

Wow... first time I've seen a link from our local news hit Fazed that didn't have anything to do with a reporter being attacked by a cat or naked guys sneaking into the shot. Way to go Fox 8 - you're moving up.

No really though, the video makes it look like he was just trying to get out of the way and the kid got in his way, barely looks like he pushed the kid at all.

Yeah, it was barely enough force to push the kid off his feet. What a chickenshit! Not to mention his reaction time was abysmal. I think we can all agree that a true hero would have grabbed the civilian, pushed his car out of the way of danger as well, and then flown to safety.

Gotta say it still looks more to me like he was trying to get out of the way more than push the kid out of the path of the car no matter how many times I replay it.

Someone needs to tell this cop that protecting the general public
and taking life-threatening hits from rampant motorists is going
to severely impede his ability to unjustly imprison minorities and
to harass innocent motorists and pedestrians for no reason.

Tsk, tsk.

It looks like he didn't even touch the kid. I think he ran straight for the barrier and it only looks like he grabbed the kid because the kid was bracing for impact.

For one, I was making an inappropriate joke about police brutality.

Secondly, after reviewing the video some more, I think I'll go watch annoying orange.

Looks to me like he saw the car coming, pushed the kid
out of the way of it as best he could in the split second he
had, then tried to get to the rail but couldn't do it in time and
was hit by the car.

Shrug. That's just me.

While this site has certainly painted a grim image of cops, I don't think anyone can fault him for a split-second reflex. You can't truly say someone's a hero unless they go out of their way to prevent a tragedy. If the kid was in the middle of the car's path, and the cop rushed over and shoved him away, that's be heroism. What this was obviously was just the guy seeing the car coming and hastily enacting his survival instinct. I doubt he shoved the kid either as a selfish or selfless act. Let's not forget, there are a few decent cops out there. Just not enough to balance out the "Papers please" types.

I'm not trying to belittle the cop. Just saying the video doesn't look at all like what the description says. I don't see the cop pushing a kid anywhere, I just see a cop diving out of the way and getting slammed by a car and thrown over a railing. The kid gets knocked over [by the car] but stands up and runs to the cop. That's all I see.

It turns out the cop got a degree in education after going to school in an ROTC program. He got his badge after service in the military and plans on being a school teacher when he feels he's too old to protect and serve.

The kid in the video disagrees.
