I always dreamed that one day I too would pilot a plane around a dirt track.

Well shit, I thought that was pretty impressive. Seems it must be fairly difficult to do that, keeping the tail off the ground the whole time, especially when the aircraft is at a standstill.
Maybe I'm just missing something, but that looked like a pretty good demonstration of skill and control to me.

Prop wash keeps the tail up. Hold the brakes, hit the gas. Doesn't seem that hard.

Yeah... I want one of those really bad now.

That looked like a nice rugged little plane. Obviously the pilot knows what he/the aircraft are capable of. Nice that he can just be flying around, spot something he wants to check out, swoop down, never leave his seat, have a great time then just take off and go somewhere else. Awesome!

You should go do that and tell us how it turns out.
His other videos are also pretty sweet. Him landing on hills with odd inclines, doing little touch and gos in the mountains. All cool stuff. Being able to fly into the mountains, land on a grassy hillside, chill for a while, then sly out sounds magnificent.

I was wondering, doesn't this kind of stuff piss off ATC?
I mean you're flying around and see a dirt track so you just land?
Doesn't that violate some FAA regulation?

This must fall into the category of one of those things that's really hard to do yet still looks completely unimpressive. Perhaps anyone with a lot of flight experience can appreciate it. Me, I saw a guy on a plane going around in a circle. A lot.
Once I saw a guy in a helicopter using a robotic arm affixed to one of the legs to pour a bowl of cereal and add milk. That was hard to do and *looked* hard to do.

No.
Yes.
No.

Yeah, back in '01 - '02, I was in college, an engineering program. Instead of calculus, I learned how to fly the plane in Grand Theft Auto 3... the first one, in the first liberty city.
That was some hard shit.
