That looks particularly unscientific.

Ya - I could look at a picture and guesstimate too. That seems to be their methodology...

I've actually been in that store many times. You figure they would want to draw attention to that location by some marking on the floor or a plaque or something.

The old Forbes Field home plate is under a urinal in Posvar Hall at Pitt, but they put it out in the lobby outside of the bathroom and state that it should be there. LIES

well, great. now when I get my time machine next week, I'll know where I need to stand to get to some place that I wouldn't want to go to in the first place.

but you could stand at that spot, activate your time machine, and pop up on home plate just in time to get brutalized by a baseball bat!

Actually, if you look at the overlay from the original plat map, looks reasonably accurate. All you'd need to be sure is a long surveyor's tape.

Cool.

Lots of historical markers are only "near" where the stuff really was, but people think they'rs standing someplace with historical significance.

Hmm, yeah, looks like maybe he needed to move a couple aisles north.

I work across the street from this. I eat at the safeway. I shop at the home depot. I knew about the seals stadium here (only huge buildings around except costco so I knew something huge was around before).

I stood on the spot where JFK was shot (years later) I know I was at teh right spot because I was walking around the street trying to get a good view of the 'window'.

Are Google Earth images georeferenced?

I don't use them so I don't know. If they're not then simply doing an overlay is not going to be very accurate, in fact it could be way off. He mentioned "making adjustments" for image misalignment. Does this mean he had to orthorectify it?

Great effort by these guys, and everything they say is plausible, but its so vague I wouldn't be surprised if they're way off. It would be interesting if they got someone with some actual GIS/surveying experience to help them with this.

Yeah, I'd definitely like to see a surveying team with access to plans and records have a go at this, if for no other reason than to verify the amateur findings.
