The funny thing is that 9 years earlier, Jack Paar left the Tonight Show because they censored a skit about "WCs" (water closets).

I actually remember watching this episode as it aired (yeah, yeah - I'm old, suck me) I COMPLETELY agree with those who appreciate - nay, HONOR - such comedic genius. Johnny was one in a billion as were Dino, Bob Hope, et al.

Now we'd never allow such horrific things such as downing a few during the show or (God forbid) smoke... I'm all a'jumble on this as I'm swept up in nostalgia wherein truely funny, REALLY funny and talented people were on the air in this format...

God bless Johnny, Dino and Bob... cliche' that it may be, there will never be anyone like them again...

Before we all wank ourselves over Dean Martin, from what I read the whole "Im a drunk on stage look at me make my witty comments" was all an act.

He took his onstage performances incredibly seriously and just played up to the image of the drunken ladies man with a witty repartee for every comment.

So before you think its all authentic, and "ooo wow look hes so witty and drunk and real at the same time", its just an very good performance, just like any other actor.

As much as I love Dino and found his charisma hilarious...
