Matters of Size

Want to know just how much smaller the sailors of your fap juice are when compared to a grain a salt?

Orders of magnitude - now zoomable.

Shouldn't the salt (0.5 mm) and the amoeba (500 micrometers) be the same size?

Very cool. Saw something similar when I was young in a book that stretched size the other way, to try to illustrate the size of the universe. Sorta like the little montage at the end of Men in Black...

I was wondering if it was gonna go smaller than a carbon atom. Electrons and quarks and whatnot.

And as to the size of HIV, holy bejesus it's small. And it looks like the Spartans turtle formation at the end of 300! No wonder it's such a scary bitch of a virus.

I don't think this is accurate.

compare the size of a chromosome to the size of a sperm.

there are supposed to be 23 chromosomes in 1 sperm....

Good call, but they are showing the X chromosome in its centromeric form with both chromatids as seen when karyotyping by stopping a mitotic cell in metaphase. This is quite a bit bigger than its fully condensed form for meiosis into sperm or egg cells.

After meiosis, each sperm cell is left with not only 1x of the 23 chromosomes, but only 1 of the 2 chromatids that are joined at the centromere (the center of the "X" shape in the chromosome that they show for size comparison.

So, not only is it automatically half of the size that they show when it's in the sperm, but it's also packaged in a much tighter form than what they show as well. Their size comparison is correct.

My sperm are the size of a grain of rice.

At least I think so, because my wife calls me Minute Rice when we have sex.
