lol at finally getting something posted. I avoided an accident with a car, but hit a mailbox which in turn totaled my car. how fucked up is that
i'm actually a little surprised because i thot they had the center rails designed to deflect cars and only in the rarest of instances do they jump the wall?

I replayed it about four times trying to figure that out. The only thing I could make out was the van swerved left, seemed to have either bounced off or swerved right just before the far wall, then crashed. Maybe the driver fell asleep, swiped the wall, freaked and went hard right?

I'd say you're right, unless I'm missing the site dedicated to footage of cars jumping the guard rails. Rare != Never
