Instrument of Win

Behold the Eigenharp, the most ridiculously amazing instrument modern technology has yet to produce, as a pair of players recreate the James Bond theme with it.

Some behind-the-scenes footage from Engadget can be seen here.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=urbUPiPNwpE i thought it was one of these (chaplin stick) at first. i just picked a random youtube video of one.

Eigenharp looks nuts. Ive seen a few midi controllers that are wind instruments and regular midi controllers, but never combined into a huge expensive one. Quite impressive in the concert they put on. I could dig this if it were played live.

On the behind-the-scenes Engadget page, is the song they play in the last video the song from The Bourne (Identity|Supremacy|Ultimatum)?

Also, the guys playing this music are guys that built it. As with most things, I'm sure someone besides the inventors will master the device and put it to better and more creative use. If this thing ever takes off, that is.

I'd still take a Haken Contiuum Fingerboard over this thing.

Yup, Extreme Ways by Moby.
Pretty sure it's been the end credit music for all three films in the series.

It's still just a midi controller, right? And therefore doesn't have the dynamics of "real" instruments. And looks a bit silly being played. *shrug*

Don't get me wrong; I'm not against synths. This just looks like a pretentious, complicated way of doing something simple.

I was thinking the same thing. With all the electronics involved, it seemed silly to have to blow into it.

It could still have dynamics to it though, just digitally interpreted.

Also, where the drums part of it?

Here's a 10 minute demo... that shows what all the things are and how flexible the instrument really is.... I wouldn't shell out $6g for one, not for a hobby, but it looks a hell of a lot more expressive than alot of instruments....

Every key has two axises of variable control,
that can be assigned to anything.

Every key.

That's why I mentioned the Haken Continuum, with its three axes of variable control which can control both digital and analog synthesizers.

But after watching the video that details each of its features, the Eigenharp definitely has it beat.
