C'mon now, Billy Joel deserves better than laying on the Auto-Tune so thick is sounds like a vocoder!

when he hits "oh say can you see," that is the most suspect note for me tho there's a couple other iffy spots.

maybe he's just getting up in years and his voice wavers, maybe it's a tuner. I don't know, I didn't run his sound. but it ain't pretty, whatever it was...

That was awfully embarrassing. I'm not sure why he opted to use auto-tune. I suppose it could've been a mistake on the engineer's part. It sounded like the auto-tune was set to a totally different scale then what he was singing in. Either way, it was hard not to hear what was going on...someone should've hit the bypass button right away. Oops!

Yes, I saw that too. My friends and I suspected he was on the soup. Although, this has nothing on Jabar Gaffney's (or maybe it was Riche Caldwell) eyes bulging out of his head during the Patriots vs Colts game two weeks ago. He was definatley hitting the pipe.

they use pitch correction on everything now. country music has been particularly overrun with Melodyne users... no one uses backup singers anymore... they just make duplicates of the lead and change the pitches. obnoxious. and totally obvious.

The fact is that this is The Star Spangled Banner. The nnational anthem of the United States. And every Super Bowl, World series or whatever, I proudly stand and sing along.
It has nothing to so with voice, pitch or even talent. It's a song that is meant to be sung... not performed.
I am, and have been a huge fan of Billy Joel since grade school, and think he did a fine job in representing his country.

Because that means that it wasn't just in the video, that's how.

Either Billy Joel's vocal talent has degraded to the point where he shouldn't take gigs like this, or he was using a horrible autotuner (which means his vocal talent has degraded to the point where he shouldn't take gigs like this).

If it was an autotuner he might have actually nailed a note or two. This was embarrassing to watch live, and Tony Dungy looks like he wants to poop on the piano...

The World Cup Final (over 1 billion) and even the Eurpean Championship Final (153 million) (both soccer) have more viewers than the Superbowl, although they only take place every four years.

ah, auto-tune.... it even makes me a passable singer.

(if any of you have an older version of the program, try placing a mic against a piano and gently hitting the strings with a hammer and watch the program have a seizure.)

You work and go to school and live here don't you?

Just because you weren't born here doesn't make you less American.

It just makes you take it less for granted.

So now you either accept it, or get the fuck out of the country.

If you really think that this song has nothing to do with "voice, pitch or even talent" as you say, then watch Whitney Houston's performance from the 80's...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=STKSdLm2r8k&mode=related&search=. She hits every note perfectly and makes you realize that this song can be appreciated by anyone, regardless of their nationality.

Why don't Americans (as a general whole) sing their anthem? EVERY Canadian sporting event that I have attended, as well as every school event, the vast majority have sung along. I know there are some Americans who do, and some Canadians who don't, but wtf?

technically by ALUM that would mean I am done going to school here(but hey I know it is hard to put two and two together), and yes, not being born here makes me not American..

You sound like a typically moron to force people out of the country because they would rather not be an asshole and shout during moments of silence. (or simply being offended by that)
