I don't get some of the technical stuff. The vroop vroop vroooooooooop doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

The song sounds a lot like that one Vitalic (I think?) track that I can't remember the name of at the moment.

That looks pretty simple to do BUT I think what won was the creativity. Its an actual song composition as apposed to all the random flashy scratching.

If it is, and it sounds like it is, then you are really good at recognizing instrumentals.

The requiem theme song was all in strings I think; but this sounds like a dead ringer.

whats amazing is that they were all basically "juggling"

Everyone was using a record and either using a single sound scratched to make a series of sounds, or a single beat over and over the make up a series of beats.

It wasn't as though someone left a record spinning with the beat. One of them was using a single snare over and over again to create the series of snares....as in...
The snare hits
He fades out his table
pulls the record back to the beginning of the snare
lets go of the record
fades back in.
Repeat fast and accuratly in synch with 3 others.

Also they where using the same sound on a record to create diffeerent sounds by playing it in reverse or forward at different speeds. This shit is hard enough on it's own...let lone synching with 3 other guys.

oh, and RJD2 pisses me off. I love Def Jux (mainly cause of Aesop Rock) but RJD2 said he was as good as Shadow...or better. On a technical standpoint, and the sheer number of records Shadow has used in performances...this is crap.

The only thing this featured from Requiem for a Dream was the easily recognizable violin part... That's what makes it seem like that piece. Just a small sample.

Actually I guess the beat is pretty similar in parts but with direct comparison it's very different. Not just sounding different [obviously] but the beat has changed distinctly.

forgive me for maybe pissing off the techno people here, but I just dont find it that impressive
its not like they are the first group of 4 guys to form a band/group and play together
4 and 5 man groups have been around since well, a goddamn long time
and if you wanna see something impressive, to check out and orchestra!

No it is the overture from requiem for a dream. Not just a little bit, the whole thing. If I could be arsed I'd match them up, they're pretty much identical on the tempo as well.

I'd say the technical abililty demonstrated by those guys is at least a match for the individual efforts of each person in a large orchestra. They've turned their decks into instruments, which is far from easy, and synchronised almost perfectly with three others. With no conductor.

Well, see, normally that would be true... if you were dealing with 'instruments'. These are, in all fairness, RECORD PLAYERS. It's like 4 people making a kick ass song with cell phone number tones. It's not as if the guy playing the bass line is just playing a beat on the record, he's MAKING the beat with a single tone over and over. It's incredable.

Just a little explanation on what exactly is going on for those who dont know the actual process... (I am keeping this real basic, so dont kill me on technical stuff)

The turn table is what makes the noise. As most of you know the needle picks up the groves on the record, and then normally passes it through some sort of amp into a speaker. These guys have put cut switches in line with their amps so that they can cut the sound on and off. This lets them take pieces of songs that are on the record, and sample them to make rythms and beats as they see fit. They can then play pieces of the record at their leasure, cut the sound, rotate the record back to the original point by hand, and then play the sound again. When you do this quickly, and have a lot of coordination, you get what we just saw in the video here.

Not 50 words or less, but that is my understanding of the whole process of scrathing (or whatever its called)

For all your DMC video needs. I haven't watched too many of them yet so I can't comment on which are better than others (not that I'm such an expert anyway) but enjoy. I personally like the solo stuff more than the groups.

The title of the song "Abbesses" is spelled correctly. I'm in Paris now and just checked with some locals. However, no one over here can provide me with a meaning of the word nor its English translation, but they completely assure me the spelling is correct..haha, go figure.

Check out their website: http://www.birdynamnam.com/

While there, watch their "Les chant des baleines" vid for a sick, harder-edged mix.

Their MySpace site also has some nice tunes for download: http://www.myspace.com/birdynamnam
"Smidget" puts on an awesome freestyle DDR Pump It Up routine good enough to impress all the girls at the mall.
