The best we can tell, this is some kind of power transformer that was having a bad day. You'd think the guy holding the camera would run away after it explodes.

Update: "That substation was in Florida. The voltages are 138 kV and 21 kV with a transformer used to step down the voltage. The station battery went dead and a short circuit developed on the 21 kV equipment. The station battery (usually 135 V) provides power to operate the circuit breakers and other equipment (similar to your vehicle). There is a battery charger that keeps the battery charged at all times.

Since the battery was dead, when the short circuit developed there wasn't any voltage to trip the circuit breakers and stop the short circuit. So it kept on cooking until the transformer overheated so severely that superheated oil came shooting out, contacting the arc and starting a fireball. When the fireball contacted the 138 kV wires, it caused another short circuit on the line feeding the station and it tripped out at another station clearing the short circuit and deenergizing the station.
