Well I know there's a few brain cells floating around Fazed, so I pose a question. Name your favorite philosopher/philosophy, and describe what he/she/it means to you.

Nietzsche interests me a lot, I like his views on organized religion, but he degrades women as well, which isn't so admirable.

One philosophical theory I thought was intriguing was in the movie 'Waking Life.' A character described that our entire lives are just being played back in our brains. We live in the 15 minutes of postmortem brain activity.

What are your views on free will and determinism?

Free will exists, but it's not as it seems. Our brains are extremely complicated, but as we can predict animal behavior through certain stimuli, in the future we will be able to predict human behavior as well (with some anamolies.) There just needs to be a computer where all psychological data is recorded and it will be able to predict a reaction to a certain action. It's as if our brains live by an extensive set of rules.

Supercomputers will someday be able to map out the brain in it's entirety and simulate human intelligence. I'm glad someone else shares this view with me, I tried to argue it in one of my cognitive psych classes and I was dismissed by the professor... Social sciences have become an insular little world while technology has created a paradigm that renders a lot of the bullshit research in social sciences obsolete and anachronistic.

I wrote a paper on the theoretical probablities of recording all human brain activity as electronic data. I still think that this is possible given the nature of neuronal activity, and how it is theorized that the brain processes and stores data...
