So I just picked up my copy of FFXIII for PS3.
I'm about to jump into that shiz!
I also bought the strategy guide (as has become tradition for me with Final Fantasy games),
and the battle system sounds like it should be highly automated and pretty kickass.
Also, when I pre-ordered, the guy at GameStop commended me for buying the game for PS3
instead of XBox because the XBox's video for cutscenes is going to be compressed, and
the game is going to be on like 4 dvds instead of one Blu-ray disc.

Have fun playing your fairy game.

Remind me to melee kill you with my riot shield.
Gonna be picking up this game tomorrow and going to dive into this weekend.
i hate that bitch Jihl Nabaat already.
I'll get it for the 360, most definitely.
You can just load it on to the hard drive, yeah?
I don't normally do that but with a 4 disc game I
think it'd be worth the time to do it once just so I
don't have to be swapping them.

ah i have to wait til friday after next.
I read that since the game is so linear, the whole switching disc thing is a non issue.
If you're going to buy it for PS3 instead of 360, it should be for the minor graphical differences. That's why I'm getting it for PS3 at least.

I'm totally playing FFVIII as soon as I'm done with FFVII.
I played FFVIII years ago, so it's about time for a re-do!

Has anyone started playing yet? Is it good? I am really on the fence for this one.

yeah ff8 started in a school
oh and i've played about an hour and a half so far,
which is to say i've played for fifteen minutes, and watched over an hour of cutscenes.

Anyone register their game online as the card does to see what the "special item" is?
Holy shit the graphics are amazing in this game.
I'm going to get it next week sometime... I'm still busy as hell and I already have BC2 and Dante's Inferno on my gaming plate... I feel like it'd be a waste to get another 45 hour single player game right now.
I am a huge FF fan though, 7, 8 and 12 being my favorites. I heard this one is far more linear though which kind of sucks... I love exploring, running around towns and level grinding.

level grinding.
so far this is the only thing that really irks me
i haven't gotten a single experience point.
pretty sure battles just give items.
weapons have an exp stat so i guess they level up
but i haven't gotten any xps for them either
mebbe once i get out of tutorial land...

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing Stile. I just finished playing for the night, I'm 3 hours in and only just was introduced to the leveling system. It makes sense how they did it though. So don't go banging your head against the wall killing every enemy you see until then. The other thing I'm wondering about is if the components I keep finding are actually going to be useful to make armor and weapons, or if its all just vendor fodder. I've been hanging onto it until I get a better idea.
DP - yeah, you use the components to upgrade your weapons and accessories. The only things worth selling in my opinion are the credit chips and premium credit chips, as they have no upgrade value.
If anyone wants some rudimentary tips on how to maximize upgrade efficiency, let me know. I think it's around 5 hours before you unlock upgrading though, if not longer.
I'm on chapter 11 at about the 60hr mark, but haven't loaded the game up since playing through Heavy Rain and temp loaning Red Faction: Guerrilla from my work. Before anyone asks if I have any semblance of a life, I've had it for six weeks.

is this coming to the PC ?
I've played it for an hour, and I'm now facing a whole day of work before I can run home and play more.
Please, everyone, use the spoiler tags for the time being. I don't get much time to play so I'll be making slow progress! :D

Nothing ruins a game faster than a piss poor battle system.
Except maybe the whole dress up BS that was FF: Pretty Pretty Princess.
Played about an hour, everyone decided that today was "Watch every marathon on cable" day...
So far, so good, although stiles has it right when he says there are lots of cutscenes
BTW, does anyone find it aggravating that the exclamation mark keeps appearing in the menu? I know I got another potion, no need to warn me about it for the umpteenth time

I hope they haven't gone too overboard with simplifing it. FF12 was my favourite game in the series by far (there, I said it) mainly because of the options available.
I reserve judgement until I'm a dozen hours in or so.

Sucks that I got addicted to blitzball right before this game came out...
Uh, it's simple. No mana points to speak of. Health recharges after every battle. You only directly control one character.
Apparently it opens up a lot more later though. Any late-game players want to reassure us?

Its a bit like mashing in FFX and FFXII battle systems, its all Active (no Wait in battle) and you queue up attacks to unleash on the people
At least the battles are more ChronoTrigger in nature, kudos to that

You will still have to swap the discs. It does a dvd check and then (mostly) reads from the hard drive instead of the dvd drive. You gain a slight reduction in load times and a huge reduction in console noise, not the ability to play multi-disc games without swapping.
XII sucked
X and X-2 were good.
I'll hold out for a used, I guess.

Its like XII just in the fact that you can see and sneak up on the monsters, then it zooms in for the battle in its own field, just like the other FFs
Oh, no more invisible attacks. Chrono Cross had visible monsters too.
I meant to say I like that.
I hate active battle in RPG's.
Much rather plan out my moves,
assign each character a role,
and reassess as the battle progresses.
Might be why I like FFT so much.

Gotta think quick in this FF...and by think quick I mean mash the X button while the cursor is over Auto-Battle (works so far)

Cloud was too much of a whiny bitch IMHO (Boohoo, I'm haunted by JENOVA and Sephiroth memories and crossdress, but I still have more balls than Squall)

I'm as yet undecided about the battle system on this one, pending getting to know it better.
However, at first glance here, it appears that they give you a bunch of new moves to learn,
simply so you can ignore them and just press Auto-Abilities as quickly as possible.
