Most of you know how this goes.

For those of you that don't:

You all give your your address, shipping preferences(International (I), or Local(L))T-shirt size, and gift ideas(optional) to me or whoever volunteers to take over in the next week.

Add our name to the list like this.

And then wait for the deadline to find out who you're gifting to.
It's kept fairly random, depending on shipping preferences/bribes.

We started a little earlier than this last year, and I think everything went fairly smooth.

So if we're going to make this happen again, get on it.

Suggestions for deadline to enter?
Should we just go with last years date of Nov 19th? 

are we setting a price point? 

It was $20 last year, but I'm sure it was exceeded by a few bucks by some people.
Keep if fun and inexpensive.
We want as many people to participate as possible so I'd say we should shoot for $15-$20.
Unless that witty t shirt you absolutely have to buy your person is $23.50.

my head is too cloudy right now to know what to do in this thread.

I ended up spending $50 last year :o 

Shipping isn't meant to be included in the price limit.
So yeah.
50 is easy to do depending on how heavy/large the item is, and where it's going.
I just wish my local shipping store didn't mix up one of my orders.
Some little girl somwhere got a box full of homebrewed beer and homemade irish cream.
And my giftee got a bunch of kids clothes.

Not really. A few weeks to get the people together puts you at November 1st. Then a few weeks to take the time to buy gifts? November 15. Then people to get off their lazy asses and send them? You're talking December 1st. Hanukkah starts December 11. And it can take a few weeks for some things to get to their destinations. 

I say that as long as you send your gift by the end of 2009, then it's all good.
Personally, I am always low on funds from OCT thru FEB.
I'm not sure why, but this usually ends up being the case.
We can make the deadline to join early November, and push it back slightly if needed.

The idea has been presented to me to try and make sure that no uber-n00bs get on the list, trying to get a free gift.

I don't like the idea of turning anyone away, but there needs to be some sort of regulatory process to make sure no one gets burned.

I suppose we can be democratic about it, but if things get too overly bureaucratic it might take all the fun out of it.

I propose everyone that participates make a pledge of 1-3 dollars to help cover any potential scum-baggery.

they block image hosting, file hosting, document hosting, and personal e-mail on top of the usual stuff (gambling, porn, etc).

i work for mastercard. they don't want us copying people's personal information and taking it away.

it's really stupid that they block that crap. if we wanted to steal someone's info, there would be tons of easier ways that don't leave a digital trail.
