I'm on the Verizon site now ordering a replacement phone for someone else. My contract has been up for a long time and I'm still on the original enV. I could totally order a Droid with a few mouse clicks and no one would ever question it, but renewing my contract right now isn't the "right" thing to do since we're doing a big renewal and possible carrier switch in January.
Word is Verizon is going to change the early termination fee for smart phones from $175 to $350 next week so it would cost a lot to cancel if we switch early next year.
Morals suck.

Hey rob, when I took my cisco classes, most of the labs were 5 2600 routers with the latest firmware and one-two 24 port switches depending on the lab
Learning how to send the current config to a text file and then alter it to make it all commands so you could send it all back in at a later time instead of retyping all the basic setup commands was by far one of the most helpful things I learned
also, the one thing I wished I'd learned more about was ACL's or access control lists

When working working with ACL's, remember the "reload in 5" command.

ok trying to hook a cisco srw208p up, I put in a gbic, and it blinks, it's connected to the GBIC of the catalyst 3750 in the wiring closet, i made the gbic port the same vlan but it's not passing traffic from the 8 ethernet ports through the fiber port
i'm probably missing something obvi here

Something I learned the hard way last night: when you are logged in via RDP to a server with Intel NICs, all of the PROSet property tabs are hidden. Silently.
Apparently this is to protect one from locking one's self out remotely by making a network configuration change. Since of course servers never have more than one network adapter. Sigh.

This one time my exchange server cluster crashed, I used hair gel to re-route the incoming traffic to a spare Mac laptop I had laying around

i was in a state building in california on contract. my job was to do an inventory on their server farm. my third day there and sure enough, power goes out. they had a plan in place but no flashlights and their access keys didn't work (that system didn't have UPS). i sat back and watched.
mmmk
heh so my boss is taking the server that i loaded vmware server on back to hq
so he was like load the vm on one of the pcs we use for users
i was like
if i load up one of those, i'm making it a straight up linux box, no vm

figured it
2 hours? What the hell was wrong?
so today i decomissioned a server and loaded up a ubuntu linux box with a proxy and mrtg
put in a new poe catalyst 3750 switch
yay
put in a new poe catalyst 3750 switch

tl;dr to follow:
basically i took a switch that was part of a cluster at our other building, brought it over here, put it in my cluster where it became the master because i'm stupid and didn't do a write erase first so i had to change the vlan settings to allow the vlan to have an ip address so i could use cisco network assistant to apply the proper port roles

basically everything was vlan 1 when it's supposed to be vlan 10 and 20 voice and data respectively and the one switch that didn't work was the one that was set up the way it was supposed to be so i plugged in to a jacked up one and changed all the port roles except for port 48 on all of them that i use for management
savvy?
savvy?
they should just give me my ccent i already know this shit
it's not as freaking hard as they make it out to be
the shitty part about the certs, from what I've read in the exams and shit, is memorizing all the stuff that realistically you would look up
oh, and configuring a router, mainly from scripts on a cd

yeah like really i need to know how to subnet chortle i use a calculator mofo
the funniest part is while the port roles were applying various things started working halfway until they were all applied
Yeah, I took the first half of the ccna and they pretty much only asked questions about shit that you would never think to memorize, and there was a fuckton of OSI and tcp/ip model bullshit, fucking cocksuckers
ask me configure 50 routers in a few hours, I could have done that, answer these obscure fucking questions that are useless, not so much

the cool part is you can do 2 exams to get ccna instead of just 1
icnd 1 get you ccent
icnd 2 gets you ccna
icnd 1 get you ccent
icnd 2 gets you ccna
fuck this i'm going home to drink beer and play poker
i also found like 4 gbics digging for my cascade cable
Yeah, back when I took the cisco classes it was all one giant test, then 2 weeks before the end of my fourth semester they change it and broke it up into two parts
I may have to go get the latest cisco books and study up and try again, did you ever find any good simulators?
