Left 4 Dead is out and a bunch of Fazers are playing, so let's get this shit started.
If you want to get some games going, join the Fazed Steam Group, add some Fazers as friends and have some fun.

I didn't buy because:
1. I love TF2 too much to play something else
2. $45-50 is too much money for me to spend on a video game right now
3. Not a fan of zombie apocalypse themed material
4. Not enough time for me to invest in another game
I do feel a bit left out, though.

Does anyone want to take part in a Left 4 Dead 4-pack purchase?
Instead of a single copy at $50, you can buy 4 for $150 which boils down to about $37.50 each.

That was a quick mind change.
Also, I'd love to, but I'm broke.
already have a copy, and its awesome
For clarification is thread only for PC L4D or 360 as well?
is there a story, or is it mainly for multiplayer?

I had a ton of fun playing tonight with some decent folks. I liked that there was no auto-balance after 2 people on the other team ragequit -- we got to play as a team for the whole level/story. I typically choose the auto shotty for my primary weapon when I can; I like to get up close and personal with the zombies.
As infected, I mostly got stuck as a hunter or a smoker, and I think I spent more time dead than alive (no pun intended). I am looking forward to learning how to better play as infected. It seems like ambushes will work best. Have your boomer puke on as many as possible to get the horde involved and then the rest can move in and pick survivors off while they are fighting the horde.
In all, very fun. I am excited to play it with some of you guys. Right now I am playing as 'FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF' in the Fazed Steam group.

so many things wrong with this.

2.Unemployed
3...mmm...ok...understood.
4. so...wtf is taking up so much time, you single pussy, unemployed person I understand...too a point?
then I figured, if you feel left out...its really because of #2.
am i right?
In this economy do you really think somebody has to be unemployed to be unwilling to throw $50 at a toy? Since say what you want, but that's what games are.
I do play games by the way, but I also know when to focus on more important things.
This game does look cool, and I plan on getting it... one day.

no...it was an empty attempt at being funny, yet you have pointed out my economical inaccuracy in developing a semi-accurate account of an almost non-existent level of research based on an individual whom I do not know, nor will I ever meet to discuss his financial situation. So, yes, my good Sir, I have no indication that the economical status of this young man's bank account, reflects the ability of said person to enjoy such a luxury as a $50 piece of visceral entertainment.

Huh, quick way of getting out of the apartment: jump onto the airconditioning unit in the alleyway, then onto the boxes. You lose about a quarter of your health, much less than you would probably lose going through the whole apartment.

I think it might be bugged...
Whenever I tried to jump off I automatically grabbed the ledge and was assisted by the NPC's.

For Shame.
Ok, the defense against the horde on top of Mercy Hospital now ranks with the end of Half-Life 2, the escape from the ship in the beginning of Medal of Honor: Rising Sun, the discovery of the low-gravity secret level in Quake, and the first time I played Goldeneye as one of my favorite FPS moments ever.
Also, I wasn't expecting zombie ass when I bought this. Kudos, Valve.
Ooh, and once while climbing up to the Mercy Hospital roof, we saw a dead Tank hanging in the corner of the stairwell. It was probably a glitch or something, didn't seem to be attached to anything prominent, but it was kinda spooky nonetheless.
And I still can't believe this:

Oh, and did anybody notice the piece of graffiti in the last safe room of No Mercy which reads, "NO ZOMBIE IS SAFE FROM CHICAGO TED"?
That's a joke from an article written by Erik Wolpaw (who now writes for Valve) and Seanbaby (of EGM's the Rest of the Crap fame) several years ago.

The game has 2 modes, Campaign and Deathmatch.
Campaign is divided up into 4 chapters or "movies", each one with multiple stages. You can play through them single player and your 3 buddies will be AI controlled, or go online and the other players will be humans. There is a lot of randomization in this part of the game and multiple paths to get to your goal... for example you can sneak around behind and through buildings or just run down the main street guns blazing. The point is, there's a bit more replayability to this game as your experience with each chapter/level will not be exactly the same on subsequent plays, especially with different humans playing with you.
Deathmatch I have not played personally but I understand it's your average team vs team type of thing with humans vs zombies, humans can becoem zombies somehow and vice versa...
right now I'm just having a blast playing through the campaigns, I'll get to deathmatch later. I completed the first movie last night with Cerr from the Fazed group on Advanced, I'll be online tonight probably around 1930 eastern time and would love to get some folks up to play through chapter 2.
oh and the defense on top of the hospital to end Movie 1 is not that hard... everybody load up on molotovs before you use the radio and then retreat back into the stairwell behind the minigun... 2 upstairs and 2 downstairs. close the doors and shoot holes through so you can see and shoot through them. basically you just stand there mowing down all the zombies which can't even get to you if you don't let them destroy the door.. my team positioned 1 assault rifle and 1 shotgun at each door and they never even got close and we were on Advanced.
There is a break in the horde when the Tanks show up. When you hear him, bust out of the stairwell and one person man the minigun while someone else lights him up with a molotov. The minigun can also tear him up while he's on fire but be careful he might come after you. I don't know how it is on Normal, but on Advanced (or expert) there are multiple waves of horde and tanks, so as soon as the tank dies everybody needs to book it back to the stairwell. lather, rinse repeat for each wave of horde/tank until the choppa shows up.

I am so fucking playing this tonight.
Hmm, clever, qyv.
We kept sticking it out on top of the roof above the minigun, shotguns for the ones climbing up, assault and hunting rifle for the ones far away. 'Course, when the Tank got up there, he'd smash away, and the whole plan got pulled apart if somebody got yanked off the roof by a Smoker. After three tries on Advanced, we got one person rescued. D:

Having played only the demo on the PC I will say this: if you play it on anything below advanced you will not be challenged. On normal my group would regularly reach the end of the campaign without suffering a single incapacitation. We would end up just dicking around at the end trying to trigger another wave of zombies before closing the safe-room door.
On advanced things seem to be much more well balanced and well paced. That to me is the perfect setting for playing with strangers.
On expert people need to stick together -- its the way the game was meant to be played. If youre playing on expert with someone who is an asshole (ie runs ahead, dicks around, shoots the witch etc) you wont win. Even if everyone plays well you will suffer multiple incapacitations. This is by far the most rewarding way to play.

Yeah, tried Death Toll on Expert with strangers who just ran straight ahead from the spawn, shooting away.
We got maybe 50 yards from the spawn before dying.

I hadn't really looked into the game much. In fact, up until a few weeks ago I refused to look at it simply because of the seemingly annoying way they spelled the title. Left *4* Dead? Come on, don't use numbers instead of letters. Then I figured out the 4 was for the 4 player aspect. 'Aha' I said aloud. Now, I don't really enjoy playing games that make me cry myself to sleep and crap my pants, but I do really like team-based games. So I'm kind of stuck here, I wish they left the demo up for longer. I found out about it when I went to my parents house to get my wisdom teeth out. When I return back to my apt, the demo comes down. Wtf? Plus, with TF2 and WotLK out I don't really need another game right now. But it does look like a good time. So I need some coaxing, but I'm close to caving.
I still don't know if I'm going to bite even if there are three other people that want to buy the game. Pretty sure the zombapocalypse loses to CoDWaW.
To answer a question I got via PM,
One of the four has to buy the four-pack
and then gift it to the three other people
and trust that the other three people pay up.
Of course this is Fazed and I'm sure we'll hold each other accountable (and probably only take in user names that we know) so it should be a safe investment.
To be able to gift games on Steam you have to be friends with the person beforehand. You can end the friendship afterward if you'd like.

That happened to my crew the first time or two, we kept getting yanked off by smokers and hunters once that happens in the middle of a horde you're toast. With the stairwell method sometimes a smoker will grab you through the hole in the door BUT he can't drag you THROUGH the door so you're still safe. The other person just steps up and rescues you. I didn't realize at first you can rescue someone trapped by a smoker both by killing the smoker OR just grabbing the person with your action key, which works great in the stairwell. Anyway I talked them into my stairwell plan and it worked like a charm until the last Tank, we missed with the last 2 molotovs so I shot the Tank to get him after me and ran through the fire. I died cuz I was almost dead anyway but he caught on fire and died too, and the 3 other guys made it through the final rush. I got a kick at the end of the credits when it says "in memory of" and lists anybody who didn't make to chopper.

totally agree man! join us tonight I'd love to try the 2nd episode on Expert.
How exactly does the server system work? Other than the demo which I just played with random people I only played the 1 game last night, and I found that server because Cerr was on it and I used the Steam Friend browser. Say a couple of us meet up and want to play.. do we just go find an empty server and set up a lobby on it with whatever settings we want? Are servers like.. open.. like that?

This may seem like a silly question but I've never really used it before.. how do you friend someone via steam? The only way I could see people was by viewing the Fazed group and everyone's status but I couldn't figure out how to add a friend
