I plan on it.
My parents are here.
They are not doing so well with their health.
and need help with everyday things.
But, when they pass, it will be time for us to get the hell out of here.
My town's median income is $34,000 last time I looked.
There is a large gap between the poor and rich here, though.

A 12 pack of cokes is $5.09 at Wal-mart. $5.09 FOR A 12 PACK!
Soon they'll have you waiting in coke lines.
Our fast food joints will end free refill policies and start filling their 130oz cups with RC cola instead.
Americans might be forced to drink tap water.
The horror!
I was around for the last one in the late 70's, early 80's. On my own with a family and a small house. Things now aren't as bad as then, but they are getting there real fast and some trends look real familiar (again). After that crunch, it took about 4-5 years to get back to normal.
My advice, hunker down and hang on.

Wow. Median family income here is $112,258. I'm poor!.
Americans might be forced to drink tap water.
I already drink water thank you. The cokes are for the skatepark.
My advice, hunker down and hang on.
Sage words my friend.
Median family income
(per year) $55,259
(per year) $55,259
woo!
Yeah here is like $27,000 for a family
hmm, my little town was ranked 4th best place to live in 2006. Must be up that high because I moved there....
don't buy coke?
I never pay for it.
STEAL COKE
I'm of the belief that nothing ever actually happens in the stock market, people just react to what they think is going to happen.
Self-fulfilling prophecies, really.

You mom fulfilled my prophecy

Well being that a stock is the present day value of future earnings expectations for a company that pretty much is what they are. A guessing game you could say perhaps but how else could it be?

what do you want? reasoned analysis and dialogue?
we're starting to get invoices for the real costs of globalization.
the economy is shifting. some investors can see where we're going,
some can only interpret the trends, and others haven't a clue.
me? i've traveled beyond the outer wall
and seen what the darkness hides.
i'm putting all my resources into eating, drinking, and fucking.

Sucks. I heard trucking in Nevada is down 12% and now the brothels are feeling the pinch because the remaining truckers haven't the spare cash for some goddamn poontang.
this is bullshit

So much for the entrepreneurial spirit and hard work angle.
Let me try that again.....

I think we probably all do...
It seems the media is full of doom and gloom but the indicators don't back them up.
Still waiting for Moonpie to give some level of proof of the indicators he claims don't back up what the media is portraying our markets as.
There's a lot of mixed signals out there as far as numbers are concerned.
National Growth is up a very small percentage but consumer confidence is at an all time low. Manufacturing numbers are up due to exports but home building is still in the tubes. Inflation is still in check but won't stay that way for long. A lot of people are convinced that a rise in interest rates will fix our inflation worries but that won't be the case.
Mostly I just think that, depending on the area you live in, a lot of people still aren't seeing the effects of the downtrodden economy yet other than in their investment portfolios and gas tanks. Here in West MI nothing has changed other than gas prices and the overall opinion of most of the people around here is that of optimism rather than fear.
As far as my own personal opinion, I'm young and my job is secure so I'm not to concerned with what the outcome of this will be. Sure the markets have taken a big hit but it's nothing out of the ordinary. Like has been said before, I think the biggest thing building fear right now is the "talk" and the fact that people have enormous amounts of information at their fingertips through the internet and TV.

I saw an article in one of the major mags about how the US wasn't getting worse - the rest of World was just getting better and increasing the price of things across the board.
There's some truth to that - for a long time we were the only game in town, but thanks to the intarwebs and other things...there are more than enough people to buys stuff.

Factories and other places where blue collared people don't make jack for wage are closing down around here now.
Yea the US isn't really failing, it's just not doing as good of a job of keeping up with globalization as it could be. The biggest concern with the global economy right now is that across the board inflation is OUT OF CONTROL and as we begin to adjust our rates to help stop inflation here, other countries will do the same and may wipe out the effects of any rate increases here.
Should be an interesting decade or so as the global economy comes into balance. Anyone referring to the economy these days as just the American economy is kind of an idiot.

AMERICAN ECONOMY FUCK YEAH
fuck the economy...the rich get richer, the poor get poorer, a small as fuck house costs 500,000, credit cards have higher than hell interest rates, gas is fucking ridiculous, cell phone bills are expensive as hell, food is expensive as hell, the internet charges tax, my grandma has a broken jaw that she got in a barfight that will cost 784,000 dollars, and all of these so called 50+ mpg cars are being tested for fucking 70 years before they're actually gonna come out.
ohh yeah, and george bush sucks and dick cheney shoots people.

a small as fuck house costs 500,000
I got a 2,200 sq ft home on a 1/3-acre lot for under $200k. Said home is 25 minutes from downtown St. Louis, and next to 3 grocery stores, 3 gas stations, 2 car washes, 6 fast food stores, a butcher, a Target, and a variety of specialty stores. I can walk to Home Depot and carry back small purchases in less than 20 minutes, and if I want to go to college, it's a 5-minute bike ride. There are 2 sets of tennis courts within walking distance of my home, and the high school is directly across the street.
You need to find a new place to live.
You tell'em, JT.
2,200?
How's it feel to live in a shack?
How's it feel to live in a shack?
Seriously... I watch these "flip that house" shows, and I wonder how in the hell people afford these 1,200 sq ft homes that cost $450k. There's no way you can tell me that they earn twice what I make just because they live in LA. They're gettin screwed just because of where they live.
