Hey guys, i doubt u guys will be in this kind of a situation, but maybe you can help,

I just bought some decent HDTV Component Cables for my ps3-tv (the only drawback of the ps3 i can think of is not coming with them) and I am running into the same problem I had with my shitty 360: the system does not have an aspect ratio setting. Thus my 30" CRT 1080i-possible below average HDTV, is being forced to broadcast either 16:9 with bars, or 4:3 with awkward stretching (or deal with 480 w/ 4:3 and lose the whole HD experience altogether). The zoom function on my tv allows me to zoom, as in a pan and scan shitty zoomed setting you will. Any ideas, or like everyone else that likes low priced, albeit heavy, clear crisp picture of a flat tube crt HDTV am i just stuck with this?

I dealt with it with the 360, but i never really enjoyed using that thing.

My roommate and I both got PS3s with Kmart's infamous 20% off any 1 item coupon. I was upsold into getting the 80gig (orginally I wanted the 60 due to hardware emulation.) It can play PS2 games just fine, however. It came with MotorStorm--that game pisses me off so damn much! I'm on one of the last races. The AI gets so annoying, plus I hate when they make the races at night so you can't see ANYTHING; I'm so glad I spent $400 so that way I couldn't see what awesome graphics the PS3 was capable of. Otherwise, I'm extremely satisfied with the PS3. I think the system works well, feels solid, and I like the controller way more than the 360's.

Anyway nobody's mentioned Little Big Planet yet--I think that will be one of the best games for the PS3.

My ID is Guild220. I need more people to play MotorStorm with!

I went to get one with the coupon when they had restocked (I posted the coupon on fazed the 2nd day it was effective actually, then I saw someone had made a thread just for it, ha) but when they had a system available, the coupon wouldn't go through. My bud got one though the week before. I settled on 15% at target. I wanted a 60, but they were out, so i got the 80gb. But i also was afraid of the ps3 acting like the 360. Emulation just didn't work well on my 360. Games crashed a lot. So far ive logged about 10 hours on GTA: SA with no trouble.

Trying changing the resolution to 720p in the XMB Display settings. If that doesn't work then you will probably need to go into your television's service menu and adjust your overscan. You can some good help about that in the AVS Forums. Seems to be common problem with certain tubes from what I understand.

yeah. i mentioned it when i asked, i can set my tv to 16:9, or zoomed 16:9 (so a mock 4:3) if i want 1080i picture quality. but neither are both the picture quality and the full game screen that is acceptable. the ps3 has no option, just like the 360. unfortionately. so i have to set my tv and deal with bars on 16:9

I just got Jericho and Ninja Gaiden Sigma. Ninja Gaiden seems sweet so far but I haven't gotten to sit down with it for more than 20 minutes. Jericho is somewhat disappointing to me. I had been following the game for a while and considering buying it but I just rented it. It has no multiplayer, sub par voice acting, and pretty linear gameplay. The AI is pretty retarded. THe concept of the story is pretty great but poorly executed. I dunno, It seems to be getting better the more I play, I'll probably beat it just for the hell of it but it sjust another disappointment for my ps3 :(

NGS is a great game and you'll feel like a ninja when you get into it heh. It's really challenging so be prepared to stop yourself from throwing the controller. The camera work could have been a little bit better, especially when fighting in tighter quarters. The second story with Rachel is meh but she's polygraphic correct. I enjoyed it overall, beautiful looking game.

I dnloaded High Velocity Bowling today, I'll try and post up a review this weekend.

I just completed Folklore, and quite enoyed it. I went out and bought CoD 4, and Uncharted after completing it.

CoD4 is the shit, I started the single player campaign and could not put it down. I forced myself to quit playing after the mission "One shot, one kill." This game is so rediculously intense and enjoyable.
Spoiler:

The scene where the nuke goes off and you regain control of the american, and you slowly crawl out of the crashed helicopter at ground zero was amazing. The sounds of the children playing and laughing on the empty post nuked park was hauntingly eerie in surround sound.

I can't wait to beat it so I can jump into multiplayer.

Uncharted is equaly enjoyable. It is like playing an Indiana Jones movie. All of the characters are enjoyable and the voice acting is top notch. The gameplay is nothing to turn your nose up at either. It's very emersive and some of the shoot outs are nuts. I died countless times but was never frustrated or turned away from just respawning and trying it all again.

I would highly recomend both games, though I don't think it was necessary for CoD4.

On another note I got a copy of Planet Earth on Blue Ray as a gift, and this is the sole reason HD formats were invented. I have had all of my freinds over to watch it, and it is all I use to show off my tv/surround system.

Now that I beat assassin's creed and cod4, i'm going back and beating all the games I left unfinished.

I'm on the last mission of R6: vegas, and the last race of NFS: carbon. I seriously got so pissed at jericho friday night I threw the controller, put it back in its gamefly pouch and immediately went outside at 2am to drop it in the fucking mailbox. I still have Ninja Gaiden to keep me busy tho. Hopefully they send me ratchet and clank or uncharted next.

Unlocking everything, making my own maps, getting all challenges to platinum status, and had mastered every single aspect of that game down to no look headshots with bricks.

Well, since you're on just component cables you should set your tv to 720, since they dont really support 1080i, or just go buy an HDMI cable to do that. The PS3 does have the option though. When you go to select the input/audio, select the RGB components, then another screen pops up and allows you to choose between 16:9 and 4:3. It just hides, thats all.

i cant use hdmi- since my audio is through a component audio converter to my surround sound- not to my tv or a system that goes to my tv. i ended up buying the hi-def component cables for that reason (the blue/green/red type). then i have the red and white audios go straight to my surround sound speakers through a converter.

right- so i tried it today: i couldnt get the option under 720p- but under 480p it gave me the option for 4:3. its clear as hell now- but it makes me sad that I am stuck with either a clear picture this way- or a slightly better 16:9 barred view. I love my TV- but now i might consider saving for a better set. Ive never seen a non CRT tv that produced better visuals at near the price (or better visuals in the first place). this sucks.
