Since we seem to be lacking a good PS3 thread, here it is. Who's got one? What games are you playing? What's your online ID? I got the last 60 gig at Best Buy a few weeks ago, right before the 80 gig was lowered to 500. I don't really regret it though since supposedly the 60 has less problems, and they're both being phased out for the inferior 40gb model.
None of my friends have a PS3 so I never really get to play games online with people I know. My online ID is Targaryen04. Currently I've been really into Call of Duty 4 and Assassin's Creed. I also have Skate, Rainbow Six Vegas, NFS Carbon and Pro street, Dirt, and Resistance.
Also, not to hate on 360, but I went home for Thanksgiving and my little brother had COD4 and Assassin's Creed on it. I have to say that graphically the PS3 looks more realistic, and has higher framerate. I also really like the PS3 controller and analog sticks a lot more.

Can't we have just one big video game thread?
My ignore list is getting huge.

Fuck... not another!
There is no good PS3 thread dammit. Especially with the price drop Sony is selling a ton more consoles. Long live Sony fanboyism.
I think there is a thread already for PS3

I looked the other day and didn't see a thread for it, but if this is the one... I just bought mine on gray saturday.
Walmart had the 80G model for 499 with 10 free blu-ray movies plus you still get the 5 via mail-in. It came with Motor Storm and I haven't bought any other games yet.

I think there were other PS3 threads that all died due to lack of interest.
We got ours 3 weeks before the very first price drop. Because we got it from EB games, there was no chance in hell for a difference refund.
But anyways, PS3 rocks. Online ID= Geniustwin

so this one will suffer a similar fate?
People own the PS3?
I thought that was an internet rumor like the Zune.

Did anyone play the Uncharted demo? I know the game is out, but I'm being patient, hoping someone gets it for me for Christmas.
I loved the demo, the game is very Indiana Jones and the graphics are amazing.

I'm waiting for gamefly to send me Uncharted, I can't wait. Does anyone have Jericho? It got half assed reviews but it looked like an awesome concept. I can't wait for GTA either, that and metal gear (which got delayed again). Also FFXIII and god of war 3. ahhh theres just sooo many awesome games coming out this year for ps3.
Yes but can you buy Mass Effect?
so seriously.. what's the deal with the 40gig, did they downgrade shit on it? leave something out?

60GB used hardware emulation (I believe) and the 80GB uses software emulation.
ok, so basically people will find a way to get the software emulator from the 80 to the 40 and call it a night?
no, there's a chip missing from the 40gb that made the software emulation on the 80gb work.

well, I know they give you the ability to install another OS on the PS3, so I guess its quite possible to get the software emulator off... but I dont know if anyone has done it.
interesting.. so basically for 100$ more you get an extra 40gigs, and ps2 emulation..
pretty much. I would have bought one if I had been able to get in on the 10 free blu ray discs deal.

yeah, I was impressed with walmart offering that type of deal, but then disappointed to find out that each location was only selling 5 ps3's with that deal.
But at almost $30 each, 10 blu-rays on spot plus 5 via mail makes $450 worth of movies.

Another one here. Not too many games: Resistance, Ninja Gaiden, SKATE, Assassin's Creed, and Virtua Tennis.

Oh, and just as a side note... if anyone wants to get rid of Resistance, let me know.
i'm fairly positive you can play ps2 games on the 40 gig, its just software instead of hardware emulation, same as the 80 gig. It also won't have the flash/SD memory slots. It still has wireless internet and hdmi/optical out though.
I'll probably be joining up on the eve of God of War 3... but until then, I can't justify it.

What is the difference between the 80GB and 40GB configurations?
Both the 80GB and 40GB PS3 models come standard with Cell Broadband Engine™ (Cell/B.E.), Blu-ray Disc™ (BD) player, built-in HDD, 1080p high-definition output, free PLAYSTATION®Network access, Wi-Fi connectivity and SIXAXIS™ wireless controller.
In addition to the larger HDD capacity, the 80 GB model will include the PLAYSTATION 3 exclusive game, MotorStorm™. Also, it will focus more on offering the incredible graphic quality, stunning gameplay, improved audio and visual fidelity that PS3 games have been known for by maintaining the PS2 backwards compatibility through software instead of hardware. The new 40GB model will also be packaged with the Spider-Man™3 movie on Blu-ray Disc. The 40GB model does not have PlayStation 2 backwards compatibility, although does maintain backwards compatibility for original PlayStation titles.
The 40GB PS3 has 2 USB ports, where the 80GB PS3 has 4 USB ports. In addition, the 40GB PS3 does not have the multi-media memory card slots. Consumers can use a variety of after-market accessories for transferring their media to PS3 via the USB ports.

Don't get AC it's terrible.
I've read many reviews to the contrary, by people that have played the game as it was meant to be played, instead of just rushing through it. Supposedly the game is as fun as you make it, with intricate and stealth attacks being more challenging to pull off than just rushing in.
Anyone played the new Ninja Gaiden for PS3? Can you compare it to the Xbox one?

I didn't play it, but one of the guys I work with says its the best game he has played for the PS3 so far.
No seriously I've done it both ways, it get really boring really fast, it's worth a rental. But it ain't got alot of gaming in it.
yea i'll have to agree. I'm allmost done with AC and its very repetetive. That being said, its still an awesome fucking game thats way better than half the other stuff out there. It just didn't quite reach its full potential. The AI can be very stupid at times. The investigations are repetetive, and the actual assassinations are almost impossible to pull off without a fight. The pros though far outweigh thte cons. Its one of the most beautiful games I've ever played, with as close to a real living world as you're going to see. The cities and the kingdom are huge, and very detailed. You can go anywhere and do anything you want, and if you take the time to take in your surroundings and really get into it, its very enjoyable.
If I ever grow tired of cod4 I'm going to go back and play Radiata Stories.
And I lost my bluetooth headset :(

Ratchet & Clank was sweet. If you like platform games at all, check it out.
My girlfriend likes Assassin's Creed, I haven't really played it. I am pumped for Gran Turismo and Metal Gear.
I was going to get the Ninja Gaiden game until I realized it was a remake of the Xbox game I played a while back. Is it really improved that much?
I have PS3 but I rarely play online.. I don't even remember my ID and I can't check until I get home. I have Motor Storm, Resistance and NHL08.
It's my first console and I was hoping that I could play its FPS-games with a mouse. Turns out that even though it's technically possible, none of the games support it. Does anyone have a solution? Has anyone tried the FragFX? It looks interesting, but I'd like to know if it's any good. It's not being sold in any stores here.

I would just get used to it with the joysticks. Its preferable to me at this point. And I play a lot of videogames.
I could get used to playing FPS-games with Sixaxis... but I don't really even want to. It's just wrong. I bought the thing mostly for watching HD-movies, so it's not that big a deal. I still wouldn't mind playing the Resistance-game since it came with the console. I'd even buy other FPS-games if they had mouse support.
I prefer the mouse too, Crispy, so I just stick to PC for shooters whenever possible.
A good game makes a dual-joystick configuration tolerable, though.
