I occasionally LARP. We basically just have a big foam weapon battle royal.
No one dresses up or anything.
We all made our own weapons out of closed cell foam, pvc pipe, and wood. These things hurt - it gets pretty real when every strike leaves a bruise.

I wield a springy polearm type weapon. Mad skillz.

I played in grade school & high school. Stopped for years because of M:TG took up too much time. I got out of college and joined up with a group of guys that surprised the hell out of me - they were all normal ! Gaming with these guys has been great - the only drawback is that we haven't played any one campaign longer than 8 months. We are ravenously awaiting 4th edition to arrive in may or june or whatever.

And we laugh at LARPers. They know what they are doing. And they ask for it. The Vampire: the Masquerade guys that would lurk all over downtown were the worst. Thank god they're gone.

I'm in two campaigns at the moment, both with the same group of people.
Always liked board games as a kid. Always liked RPG games as a kid.
It fits me. Been playing on and off for about 4 years now. Mostly off.
I do really enjoy it. I'm not sure if I could play with a group of strangers.
I have only played with this one group, and we just have a good time.

My old GM would do that, just to give the characters some more definition and he did really good voices, that had us rolling.

So i've obviously heard of the game, but had no idea how to play. i was told it was something like a live actino rpg game. so when my friend tried to get a game going with himself as GM of course, i decided to participate.

i assume other people are more hardcore about this, but after about 8 hours of playing, our GM friend was gettign tired, and i turned from a paladin knight into a paladin genie, with a sash that can turn into a jaguar, and a rubie that sings and has -10 constitution (or will? or metal compacity, whatever it is ) for the entire group because HE SINGS SO GODDAMN HORRIBLE. apparently.

it was funny, and worth coming back again, but the next day the GM just kinda looked at what we all wrote down and laughed at his own misdoings. especially the rogue burglar or whatevr that turned into a being of blinding light. kinda hard to sneak around.

Well, I'm currently DMing a rather cliche quest campaign (find all the [things] and save teh world), but everyone's enjoying the hell out of it. It's not the smashing success my last campaign was (city floating in space, total urban campaign, LOTS of plot stuff and a high-ranking NPC the players hated so much they made a deal with even worse people just so they could beat the stuffing out him in broad daylight in a public place)

To tell the truth, I'm kinda looking forward to finishing this one this summer, when a friend's campaign will re-start and I'll get to pick up where I left off with my Ghoul/Dread Necromancer. It's fun being the only evil member of the party.

After that, if I can find the books, I want to run a D20 Cthulhu campaign set in the 1920's, but I'm not sure which city to use... Lovecraft country is cool, but I don't want to use anything that's in one of the stories; it gives too much of an advantage to the players when they know things thier characters shouldn't.

Either that or Unhallowed Metropolis, if I can ever get the rulebook...

I'd say 4 people are enough. 1 GM, 3 players. It's really nice having a really experienced GM. Before playing, I would highly suggest really getting into the books and whatnot and get a decent grasp of the game, if you choose to be the GM.

we have talked about this in the past...
but we need to get some sort of online fazed game going
Should be doable , perhaps on irc or even better teamspeak.
one person DM's and has copies of all the character sheets.
Standard Ad&D rules. (latest I have is second edition)
one char per person..
etc...

Thank you. That must be doable. My stepbrother played D&D when he lived in the states, maybe he could DM.
I have downloaded cough legally bought the 3.5 player handbook and DM guide, it sounds like great fun.
I think that in time I would like to GM myself.
I once did something a bit like LARP'ing.
We organised a week in a replica of an iron age village.
It was more murder mystery than LARP though.
I modified a Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy pub crawl quest to something that could be done a whole week in an iron age setting.
A friend, who is trying to make movies, wrote the backgrounds for the participants.
One of his friends does special effects make up and props. He lend us a hand. Actually, a leg.

And I would most assuredly have that adventure start at first level. Don't go epic or higher levels off the bat. Start from the beginning and it will be easier to learn the process of levelling up your character and whatnot.

Probably a good idea.
The next edition is coming out soon, I think I will wait for that.
Either start with the new rules or buy all the left over 3.5 rule books and guides that are no longer worth the paper they are printed on...
