I need RED leds that will run off of 3v coin cell batteries.(already have a shitload of these)
All the ones I can find only go up to 2.8 or lower.
Today if possible.
I need these for my party friday.
Or will any old led work with these batteries?
I don't want to muck with resistors or that sort of thing.
needs to be quick n dirty.

from what i can find, you need a resistor in the circuit to regulate the current more than the voltage concerns... but apparently (and surprisingly to me) a little extra voltage can wreck an LED...
grab 2 2.8V ones and give it a shot. only gonna cost you 40 cents or something right?

An LED will work just fine connected to your 3v battery,
and it likely won't even need a resistor, even if it's rated for 2.8 or whatever.

Low-level electronics generally have massive tolerances,
but to be safe you could get a pack of 1k resistors and connect it inline.

I smoked an LED by connecting it directly to a 9v battery once.
I forgot to solder in the 5k resistor the diagram called for. Whoops.

If you get a high wattage red LED it will probably drop the voltage to 2.8 or so by itself.

Pro-tip: test one before you commit a bunch,
as if the LED is built shoddily and ill-equipped for the voltage,
it could doom it.

It should be just fine, though.

I was able to make two sets of "eyes" in a parallel circuit using one battery and 4 3v leds, and some wire taken from cat5 cable.
Another circuit I made uses 1 battery per led with the pos lead from one led wired to the neg from another and the other leads wired to each side of the 2 stacked batteries.
I don't know jack about circuitry and am just glad everything is working so far.
Thanks for all the helpful input guys.

I need clarification on a Star Trek quote. From Voyager, an episode where the Voyager crew wakes up a hibernating race of war mongering aliens. The alien leader is talking about the war that forced them into hibernation and how his wife was weak.
The quote goes something like "If it is raining you could run down the street from stoop to stoop getting wet the whole time, or you could just walk down the street and accept it." or something like that

anyone know this, and if it has origins anywhere else?

two days of looking i finally sorted through the episode list until i found the one, and then I had to track down the script

here's the quote

"When it rains, do you run from doorway to doorway, trying to stay dry, getting wet all the while? Or do you just accept the fact that it's raining and walk with dignity?"
"Rain's one thing. Plasma bombs are something else."
"But the principle is the same."
"I'd bring an umbrella."

There's a statistical rule relating to the differences between things in an ordered list.

So that the percentage difference between the second in the list and the third
is roughly half the difference between the first and second,
and so on.

I can't think what it's called, and it's proving hard to Google.

Hiya Velifer,

Not sure if you managed to find the voltage regulator in your CRV, but typically, Hondas have them bolted to the back side of the alternator. Now, as I recall the CRV is powered by the same engine as the Accord, and if Honda stays true to it's roots, I also imagine that the alternator is buried way down on the engine, drivers side, almost at the bottom.

It may in fact be easier to access from underneath the vehicle.

Now, pay special attention to installation for the voltage regulator, as they are typically equipped with 2 sintered-metal commutator brushes, which will need to be set against the armature of the alternator. Usually, your parts guy will be able to tell you how it is done, or you can talk to a Honda tech. The last one I did, had a small hole drilled above the brush-housing, so that you could compress the springs that the brushes rode on, then hold them in with a small pin. The you installed the regulator, and released the pin-which released the springs and the brushes were against the commutator. This may not be the case fo you, but I think it may be worth looking into.

Hope this helps.
