he's lucky I wasn't that kid.
I wouldn't have fired in the air.

The initial investigation shows that Hasan allegedly used only one gun during the attack — a 5.7-caliber semiautomatic pistol.

What the hell is that? A shoulder mount Howitzer or what? Where the other two guys they arrested his loading team?
sweet!!
I would guess that too, but the mm is kinda important.
5.7 caliber would imply 5.7" in diameter, which essentially is a howitzer. 5.7mm is essentially an glorified .22 caliber - it's where all the idiotic "zomg ASSAULT PISTOL" stuff originated since it's a bottlenecked cartridge that shoots a .22 caliber bullet - similar to .223 Rem. The anti-gunners jumped upon this similarity.

Damn, my range is closed for lead reclamation.
Yeah, but Fox is supposed to be the redneck gun-loving journalism entity, aren't they?
they're all pansy reporters
I'll tell you why, cause hes a fookin' journal!
2 shootings in 2 days this week while I was away on business.
I know what I do to protect myself, my wife, and my unborn child from these fucking psychos. Do you?

Yeah, ban guns, raise ammo prices to exhorbitant prices, and make it nigh impossible to purchase/maintain/carry either
hey hey, i'm a journalist in training and i love guns, the second amendment and make my day laws
Bstabby, what kind of journalism?
print mostly, but i'm studying photojournalism too
Yeah, but what do you cover primarily?
anything at the moment, and likely when i graduate and get hired. i've covered city government, trials, and done features on PTSD, murder victim's families against death penalties and am currently working on a story about cancer survivors and specific surgeries that saved them. but my ideal gig is to be a war correspondent

The only good thing about these last 2 shootings - both of those sickos were taken alive.
Any of you guys know about military trials? Can they sentence that Major to death or do they court marshal him and hand them over to the civilian legal system? I don't know how any of that works.
Stabby should do a piece on what they do to that guy before he makes it out the other side.

"UCMJ" is essentially its own justice system. They can execute. Hopefully he will be hanged(hung?) and will not face the firing squad.

?? Still could be better.
Irony.
I got a chance to use my friends Springfield Armory XD .45 this weekend.
I'm impressed. Double stack mag (13 +1) that still fits nice and snug in your hand and I was doing 2 inch groups at 25 yards.
I still like the 1911 frame ... but it was a sweet pistol.

Recoil was almost nothing too.
my buddy was putting 1 inch groups together at 25 yards with it. I told myself that was because he's more familiar with it than I am ...
But i'll admit on here that he's a better shot than I am.

don't worry about it, it's how i post here
doesn't blading the body opening up the weak point in armor?
It seems it would, but that area of the body has less crucial organs. Because this system has your arms up above and in the way they will take most of the damage to center mass, and your chest plate would cover the rest. Down below your arms is where the problem would be by standing at that kind of angle. Then you're looking at having a kidney blown out. But then again, you're also presenting a slightly narrower target, so the net difference may not matter in a gunfight.
From the pictures it looks like it's simply trying to get you into more ergonomic positions for firing. They seem to be using the natural angle of grip technique by holding the pistol at a 45 degree cant. But I would be worried about brass hitting me in the face with the gun at that angle and that close to my face.
Holding my Glock in a traditional grip and stance I've had brass hit me in the face a few times. Not cool.

Have them eat healthy food, wear seat belts, look both ways before crossing the street, don't smoke... This is not something to prepare for beyond "hey, when random gunshots start going off, duck and cover."

Identify the shooter, seek cover, return fire.
Yup, that works too, if you're carrying for some reason. Carrying for that reason seems a bit like Gecko45.
I typically carry, unless I'm going to school, the hospital, or somewhere that charges admission, then I carry spray.

This. Unless I or my loved ones are in actual danger I will not play hero. Duck and cover, be a good witness.
I agree
I didn't say anything about playing hero. And I realize my odds of dying from heart disease are far, far higher than in a lethal confrontation, though the dozen people a week whose stories are told on this site probably all thought so too.
