Am I too late to give out www.monoprice.com to buy any cables you need? HDMIs, color-coded, for just a couple bucks.

when all is said and done.. I'm still not sure of your TV..
does you TV have an HDMI port, or a DVI port?
52 HDTV, normal DVI port with 2 audio ports next to it, currently connected with a DVI to HDMI (so I can hook up regular HDMI cables, but they still dont produce sound).
don't bother than..
then..
it wouldn't change the qaulity of my games?
cuz it did for my ps3, i ran it on normal until my hdmi cords came in.

i'm always nervous to tell people about monoprice.com. I feel like it's some kind of secret and that if too many people find out about it, it'll go away or something.
the thing is, unless you hack away at your media cable, you can't connect a regular HDMI cable and the xbox 360 media cable at the same time. So you would need to buy the xbox 360 HDMI cable..
So...a little help here, I tired to play CoD4 the other day, and my 360(elite) has been having trouble reading games. Once it loaded though, I was able to get as far as the multiplayer screen and even to the loading screen for the Team DM I was headed into but as soon as it loaded the graphic for the map, I get an error that the disc is unreadable. Nothing's wrong with the disc though.
I've not tried it yet, but I think installing the game might help. I'm going to be super angry if my 360 craps out on me before MW2 comes out.

I have cables. I have a way to connect to HDMI (via DVI to HDMI Converter) if i want sound, I just gotta plug those into the DVI audio ports. However, my xbox does not have the HDMI port.
So, If its like the ps3, I don't need the normal media cable it comes with. Right? My ps3 just plugs into the HDMI converter and then the audios into the sides.

If you 360 doesn't have an HDMI slot, then you'll have to settle for the component cables or (god forbid) RCA cables. I would also suggest getting a VGA cable for your 360, it's much better than RCA, and you could use a VGA -> DVI, then DVI -> HDMI....if that works. lol, let me know.

ok, first thing.. it's a HDMI to DVI converter... the order in which you specify that is big.. :)
if the HDMI to DVI converter takes the HDMI sound and output's it to like RCA or optical, then ok, you're fine. HOWEVER, if you need to output the sound from your 360 via your 360 media cable, it's an issue..
its not a problem, its just with the sale tomorrow I can get a xbox with an HDMI cheap. Then just hook it up like my ps3, plug the hdmi port in to be ends, switch the audio cables, and ___?
___ is where I can get much better quality right? Giving that im using HDMI cables and not just the regular media cables. Cuz I'm basically looking at getting a new xbox for like 50 bucks tomorrow (got the original sold for 75 bucks, plus the $100 gift card)

As long as the HDMI port doesn't replace the media cable port, I should be fine. Keep em both connected, run it on HDMI and plug the Audio cables into the DVI port.
does your converter output the sound via secondary cables? like your ps3, do you ONLY have the HDMI cable plugged in? or do you have the HDMI and the Media cable?
HDMI and Media. DVI doesn't have audio capabilities :(
I just want to know if the xbox is the same.

If you are getting a 360 that comes with an HDMI port, it should also come with the media cable that is specificly for RCA/Optical sound.
yeah, arcade comes with all the necessary stuff except an hdmi cord.
the media cable itself is pretty spiffy and has the Standard/HDTV switch on it. But, would setting it up like my ps3 boost graphics? With the HDMI cord and Audio media cables installed and not the Video cables.
Switching audio cables from ps3 to xbox isn't a problem. Switching settings isn't a problem.

the problem is, you can fit BOTH the media cable and the HDMI cable at the same time, without hacking away on the plastic of the media cable.
look at this picture.
This shows what you need to do

Dragon Age is pretty neat. Decent story and stuff so far which is good 'cause BioWare RPGs are more like playing the story than killing everything. The controls are more like KOtOR than a dungeon crawler and they take some getting used to.
hm, that actually might be the answer im looking for.
1) that i cant use both media and HDMI
2) that I technically can use both media and HDMI.

I suggest you all spend the dollar and get Miner Dig Deep.
I've spent countless hours on it so far. It's simple, you dig, find gems, sell em, buy new upgrades, dig some more, repeat. No monsters, no fighting, just lots of dirt, dangerous rocks, and big friggen holes you can't see sometimes and fall down and lose over $300k worth of gems because you ran out of lamp light and your bag was almost full and you wanted to go ahead and fill it up so you could get the most of it and get that shiny new pick axe or even the new lantern. Oh, and you forgot to save for the last 4 rounds so you lost all that too if you decide to reload...
Fun game though ^_^

*R1 same diff, always get that mixed up
Why not drive head on? That's even more fun.
Vesper, straight HDMI is definitely a step-up quality wise from the proprietary 360 component cable. I swapped both around in quick succession at my last job and was surprised at how much better HDMI looked. Converting it to DVI might have an effect on the quality but it will still be better, I'd wager.
That said, I'm not sure - as was touched on above - if it's possible to run both connections at once from the back of the 360. I didn't check the linked photo, but I'm pretty sure I did exactly that (so I could connect and switch quickly between both an LCD HDTV and an SD CRT), but then again I was never using a retail 360, so it may not be possible on the model you're looking at buying.
Caveat emptor, but yes, the picture will be better. You will have a regular spider's web behind your TV though! I recommend getting a HDTV with 2+ HDMI inputs on the cheap as a priority.

I really enjoyed the L4D2 demo. Will play again! A+++++++++
We'll have to find time to connect on L4D2, 7. I miss you. Touch me like you used to touch me.

Let me know when. I will be on later... and by on I mean...
Best Buy actually shipped my pre-order for MW2 today. Hopefully it makes it by the weekend so I can play it all weekend long...
I scored the xbox with the $100 gift card. Woo me!
damn man, looks like walmart is really hitting the deals hard this weekend. not only the xbox thing, but they have 12-lb turkeys for like $5, and you can get pretty much everything you need for a whole thanksgiving meal for under $20.
Anybody up for some firefight, i've yet to play with you dudes and I finally got some xbl up and running.
I may be up for a round later this evening....
jmiller, what's your gamertag?

Is COD 4 having double points weekend or something?
how bad is it that i'm level 37 on forza 2, and i've hired a driver for about 95% of the races?
lol. You've probably played... er watched... for like 9000 hours.
I bet even the endurance races only net you a few thousand credits when you hire a driver.

according to the pictures, theres another cord plugged into his media cable. Neither of mine are like that. I'm assuming thats his Optical Audio?
I haven't messed with mine to much, its still sitting in the box actually.

Wow, that's a mess.
The media cable does have optical audio out on it, but I can't even tell what's what when I looks at that disaster of wires.

I think it's 220,000cr for the R1 enduro, and it takes about an hour and 10 mins. I found it faster to get credits in the Professional series.
Still hop in every few races to net over double the winnings, though.
