Why are the cables on Apple products so short?

I swear their keyboard cables are half as long as a PC.

I love my Apple keyboard. I wish someone would make a decent BT mouse, especially Apple. It's not exactly elegant to plug my clunky wireless MS mouse into my PowerBook, but I don't care, because Microsoft knows what they're doing in the mouse world.

At least they know what they are doing somewhere.

I find it really interesting that Vista is apparently ripping so much stuff off from Apple. Makes sense, but still interesting. Then again Vista is doing some weird things. Like transparent borders? wtf?

SharePoints is an application or a preference pane that makes it easy to add and delete share points like in the old Finder. In Mac OS X, by default, you are limited to sharing only what is in your public folder in your home directory. This program makes it easy to share any folder.

Closest thing to password-protected directories:

Setup:
#mkdir ~/.secret
#chown me ~/.secret
#chmod -R 000 ~/.secret

A script:

#touch ~/unlock.sh
#echo '#!/bin/sh' >> ~/.unlock.sh
#echo 'chmod -R 777 ~/.secret' >> ~/.unlock.sh

Then the opposite for lock.sh, or however you want to handle it.

When it attempts to set 777 perms on secret, it will prompt you for your password, thus, you have a password-protected directory.

RE: windows media player

You can use a little app called "WMV player" by Flip4Mac which will play most wmv through QuickTime - the advantage being you don't have to rely on any fucked up software by MS infecting your real OS.

another quick way is to make a password protected disk image. Sux cause you have to mount and unmount it, but it can be transferred easily and still be protected. I would use password protected folders thru terminal if i felt a little more comfy with nix

So yeah... I have a Power Mac and a Sony Vaio on the same monitor/keyboard/mouse. It's kind of weird, but it's really handy. I can download anything onto the mac, scan it for viruses and port it to the PC. The Windows machine is only used for gaming and pulling files out of .mds disc images. The Mac handles EVERYTHING else like a champ and doesn't die on me. It keeps the sony from acting like a true windows machine and doesn't restrict my gaming... it still sucks ass tho.

New version has a mini iTunes store that is opened by default. It looks at your playlist and reports back to Apple. Then it makes suggestions about stuff to buy from the store. So basically it's spyware. This little 'feature' was not mentioned in the upgrade info.
