I sometimes run a carracho server with live dj sets and other music related stuff on it. Would any of you be interested in that?

Why are the cables on Apple products so short?
I swear their keyboard cables are half as long as a PC.

... it's always about length isn't it?...

The cable on my bluetooth keyboard is like this <-> long!
burn.
I like having the extra usb jacks on the kebyoard so I gotta use a wired keyboard.
And i like apple keyboards so i'm stuck with the short length.

One came with my imac. Its pretty cool. I dont think I would of went out and bought one though.
just wondering how well the touch sensitive area works...
mine works great.
I love my Apple keyboard. I wish someone would make a decent BT mouse, especially Apple. It's not exactly elegant to plug my clunky wireless MS mouse into my PowerBook, but I don't care, because Microsoft knows what they're doing in the mouse world.
At least they know what they are doing somewhere.
I find it really interesting that Vista is apparently ripping so much stuff off from Apple. Makes sense, but still interesting. Then again Vista is doing some weird things. Like transparent borders? wtf?

What's a POSIX error ?
It's an error in the subsytem of the OS.
When I try to get a software update from apple (or even visit apple's site) I get a posix error. I have no idea how to fix this.
Could you post the error?
SharePoints is an application or a preference pane that makes it easy to add and delete share points like in the old Finder. In Mac OS X, by default, you are limited to sharing only what is in your public folder in your home directory. This program makes it easy to share any folder.
Closest thing to password-protected directories:
Setup:
#mkdir ~/.secret
#chown me ~/.secret
#chmod -R 000 ~/.secret
A script:
#touch ~/unlock.sh
#echo '#!/bin/sh' >> ~/.unlock.sh
#echo 'chmod -R 777 ~/.secret' >> ~/.unlock.sh
Then the opposite for lock.sh, or however you want to handle it.
When it attempts to set 777 perms on secret, it will prompt you for your password, thus, you have a password-protected directory.

RE: windows media player
You can use a little app called "WMV player" by Flip4Mac which will play most wmv through QuickTime - the advantage being you don't have to rely on any fucked up software by MS infecting your real OS.

Thankyou. A lot. I just wish I could understand.

another quick way is to make a password protected disk image. Sux cause you have to mount and unmount it, but it can be transferred easily and still be protected. I would use password protected folders thru terminal if i felt a little more comfy with nix
I just got my iBook a couple months ago, after about a lifetime of pure PC living.
I'm still getting a kick out of my Dashboard (fun with widgets!) and the f9 key that lets me see everything on my desktop.

limewire has installed viruses onto three of my friends computers. though, that my not necessarily be due to the program.
Whiskeybent: if you press shift with the F9 key it does it slowly, just to be sexy.... :D
Oh, fuck! is that sexy.
Oh, shit! Free virus protection? Anyone? Anyone?
/watched!

256 meg video card on macbook?!?!? what what!!!!
So yeah... I have a Power Mac and a Sony Vaio on the same monitor/keyboard/mouse. It's kind of weird, but it's really handy. I can download anything onto the mac, scan it for viruses and port it to the PC. The Windows machine is only used for gaming and pulling files out of .mds disc images. The Mac handles EVERYTHING else like a champ and doesn't die on me. It keeps the sony from acting like a true windows machine and doesn't restrict my gaming... it still sucks ass tho.
Oh. My wife just forwarded me a link to the Macbook page on the apple site. Sure, I could use a couple of those.
For those who have upgraded iTunes here is info on disabling the mini store.

mini store?
New version has a mini iTunes store that is opened by default. It looks at your playlist and reports back to Apple. Then it makes suggestions about stuff to buy from the store. So basically it's spyware. This little 'feature' was not mentioned in the upgrade info.
Just figured out how to hide it? how does one delete it?
