8 hours on safety from a Private who just got a DUI.
Why is a Private giving a block of instruction?
When I was a SPC I gave a two hour long block of instruction on vehicle inspections. I had just made specialist.
I was the only one in my company who had done it (my company being mechanics, and me being full-time for the Guard doing armed security at our checkpoints).
They also had me teach classes when I was a private to others in my MOS - I'd just gone through BCT/AIT so I knew all the new stuff, and to other privates for the same reason.

Interesting.
I can honestly say that not once was I ever given a block of instruction by a Private.
We are all able to learn something from everyone. . . well except Jr. grade officers. They don't know shit about shit unless they are prior enlisted ...but I digress. :) I've learned a thing or two from a Pvt - but never been given a block of instruction by one.

I give briefings and that's about it.

The CG of Ft Stewart made a rule that anyone who got a DUI had to give an 8 hour block of instruction on safety to their entire chain of command.
On Saturday morning

I was on the bonhomme richard for the past couple weeks. They gave me a ride to guam and then I hit japan and then home. Good times. Got to hang out with some of my Marine buddies while on the boat.

Shore, but I was TAD on a medical mission.

Fo sho, but much more likely to go to afghanistan.
Maybe we can hang there. I'd look forward to that.
What do you guys have to say about the rampant cheating with the Army Correspondence Courses? I've been breezing through the MOS related courses and I've done a few modules on Rosetta Stone. It seems like everyone around me is using the answers online to make it easier. I can't possibly devote enough time to catch the guys cheating. Its discouraging to be doing the right thing while others cheating around you get promoted faster.
Hopefully they'll start doing live testing instead of online testing.
Live testing would be incredibly impractical. I think creating more questions and randomizing them would help.

I was the guy who did all the work for our online Humvee courses. Everyone else just used my work to pass. Yeah, I didn't do much during field day.
I'm down here at Keesler AFB, they have me staying at the Regency Inn in D'Iberville. I'm going to call back to Aviano tomorrow to work out a rental car, but other than that things are good so far. I'm keeping my eye out for 2 non-prior guys, since I'm sponsoring a guy who is here now as a student in the same building that I'm in.
Welcome back to The States bud.
Thanks, I'm only here 6 weeks on TDY for MCE Organizational Maintenance class. I remember this place being so much more fun pre-Katrina.
Got a letter from the VA. They're moving my claim forward and are going to investigate further; even though the doctor claims my injury was considered EPTS, the VA thinks it's worth looking at further., This is a plus.

USO in Seattle is pretty chill. Highly recommended if you find yourself there with some time to kill.
One of the greatest perks of the USO is the lounges in airports. When I have long layovers now. . . . I just stare at the USOs hahaha
Question...
On the Abrams tank, on the main gun barrel....what is the 'piece' of surrounding metal near the middle of the barrel?

Thanks, pretty bird...;)

Serious question here folks. My GF is graduating from Lackland BMT in about a week. I'm going down to visit for her graduation, and am going to pop the question. I had this big plan of proposing at the graduation when 'your recruit' is waiting in the retreat field to be greeted by family members. I wanted to drop to one knee in the middle of the field to pop the question, until I heard about the very strict PDA rules. She has a GREAT career lined up for her, and I want to take no risks whatsover of her getting recycled. Apparently the commander in charge Lackland has totally cracked down - no porch breaks, nor base leaves at ALL for incoming recruits due to some bonehead pocketing 25 snickers bars and bringing them back to the dorm. If this is the tone of the commander, I think I'm going to have to come up with a new scheme to propose. Anybody know any standing policy, and/or how lenient commanders are towards PDA for graduation? Like I said, I don't want to risk her career, but I would really like to make this a big moment for her.
I wasnt allowed to hold my girlfriend's hand after I graduated basic training. they weren't assholes about it, a Drill Sergeant would just correct me on the spot and move on. Proposing on the parade field could be a bit dramatic.

Couldn't she take your left arm?

Like this gentleman is doing in the picture?
I want to take no risks whatsover
Do not, in any way, show overt affection to your lady. Period.
We had to keep telling Philip's girlfriend that he was hands off!
Ask her to marry you off base.
Well boo... thanks for the straight up advice though! It's going to be tough keeping my hands off her while on base - here's looking for the 1 day of off base!
There are also rumors that since she's an element leader, she gets liberty Sunday as well. That's just hear-say, but I sure as hell hope it's true. Unfortunately she won't be an honor grad because her damn weapon jammed on her during marksmanship test, though she was shooting perfectly before that. Such bullshit. Whatever, she's getting a bitchin' job, and I get to live in California with her in just a few months! So excited!

what's all this nonsense about liberty while in basic training?
promotes weakness I say.

hell I wasnt even allowed to go to my grandmother's funeral only 100 miles away during the 4 days between basic and AIT.
Actually, given the military's stance on families and spouses, I'd say they would be more than accommodating about the proposal. Of course, don't expect do be able to be very physical. If you are unsure, call ahead. Seriously. I'm certain the command would enjoy hearing about your plan and may bend a few rules for you. can't hurt to ask, right?
