I watched a 6 hour documentary about SEALs training. Screw that noise. In the middle of winter they'll make your whole squad get into the ocean, just to see how long you can take it. Then your team lifts 300 pound logs above your heads over and over and over and over and over. It's amazing the training they go through. Though some of it would be sweet (dive school mostly)

hope you like water too...

I could probably pass it...

I made it through the corps boot camp and flight aircrew training.. What I found fun was where they put you in the mock aircraft and turn it upside down in a pool and you have to find your way out. And the seat that drops you down in the water. You have to unstrap yourself and find which way was up.

Good Stuff..

Most Badass Fighting Force of their time:
the united hordes of the mongolian empire.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mongol_Empire

The Mongol Empire (1206–1368) was the largest contiguous and second largest empire in world history ruling 35 million km˛ (13.8 million miles˛) and more than 100 million people, almost equal in size with British Empire.

Strategy

The strategy of the Mongolian ordu was not unlike the strategy of most World War II armies. From the artillery preparation to the speed and distance the armies moved, the skill and strategies of the Mongolian ordu were not improved upon until the middle of the 20th century. The speed at which the Mongols conquered is not surprising considering that a 20th century army had essentially conquered the medieval world.

Light Cavalry

Mongol cavalry soldiers were extremely light troops compared to contemporary standards, allowing them to practice tactics and false retreats that would be impractical for a heavier enemy (such as European knights). Mongols under Genghis Khan and his descendants were the perfection of light cavalry/horse archer warfare. One of the commonly used techniques of Mongol soldiers was the feinted retreat. In the middle of battle, a Mongol unit or whole army would retreat suddenly, giving the opposition false confidence. After that, the opposition would find itself surrounded by Mongol soldiers that would eventually shower them with arrows. Mongols didn't favor close combat but rather preferred to fight from a distance with their bows and long-practiced marksmanship from horses.

Mobility

Mongol soldiers were very mobile compared to their counterparts, which would ultimately lead to better terrain scanning and learning routes along with assimilating local knowledge and pitfalls for battle. Better mobility along with excellent political and military organization that based upon horse speed led to create complex intelligence network and better battlefield scenarios.

New Technology

One of, if not the greatest, technological developments of the Mongolian ordu was their composite bow. The Mongolian compound bow was made of horn and sinew, and then coated in a waterproof lacquer. It had a draw weight between one hundred pounds and one hundred-fifty pounds (450 to 670 newtons). The range was about twice of what anything an opposing army could muster against them at two hundred fifty yards. The closest bow in medieval time was the English longbow, with half the draw weight and range, and about twice the size. Another medieval bow, the crossbow, took much longer to fire. The small size of the Mongolian bow not only allowed them to carry it on horseback, but to shoot in any direction while their horse galloped. When the bow was unstrung, it resembled three quarters of a circle, but strung it formed the classic shape of a bow, but with "ears" at the ends. When released, the bow could revert to its original shape, therefore launching the arrow a great distance. Not only did the Mongolian archers carry the best bows, but also the archers had a thumb ring that released the string much faster than the fingers could.

The medieval knights opposing the Mongols often wore heavy armor, which the Mongolian compound bow was capable of penetrating. When knights were struck by arrows which penetrated their armor, they were faced with the difficult task of removing the arrow embedded in their armor and their flesh. Removing the armor and/or arrow often exacerbated the wound. In contrast, many of the Mongolian soldiers wore silk shirts. When struck by an arrow, the silk would be carried into the wound by the arrow. Tugging gently on the silk around the arrow could free it with minimal additional wounding to the soldier. The Mongolian horses, unarmored themselves and carrying soldiers clad in light clothing had much more endurance than the horses ridden by the opposing medieval knights.

Technology was one of the important facets of his warfare. For instance siege machines were an important part of Genghis Khan's warfare especially in attacking fortified cities. He used Chinese technicians that were very advanced for the time. The siege engines were disassembled and were carried on horses to be rebuilt at the site of the battle.

Once the main battle and siege was over, the Mongol army would follow the enemy leader until he was killed in order to prevent him from being a rallying point for his army after war. Most times the enemy leaders would try to escape realizing that they would likely lose the war, but the Mongol forces followed until they made sure they died.

Psychological warfare

Genghis Khan employed psychological warfare successfully in his battles, especially in terms of spreading terror and fear to other towns and cities. For example if he found that there was an opposition, Genghis Khan would offer an opportunity for the enemy to surrender and pay tribute. If the offer was refused, he would invade the cities and towns and let a few civilians flee to spread words of their loss to other cities. When words got out that Genghis Khan's force destroyed any resistance, it became much harder for other leaders to persuade their people to resist Genghis Khan. Genghis Khan's stance against opponents was for them to surrender and pay tribute or have them die. When besieging, Genghis Khan usually left the town unharmed and guaranteed them protection as a resource for future campaigns and logistics; if they resisted, however, he would attack without mercy. It is said, however, that he saved many lives because of intimidation of opponents.

they also had a system of manned horse stations
that allowed communication to travel across the empire
with a speed that was unrivaled until the telegraph.

Marines are dirty and uncivilized. Clean up your act, and step up to the next level. ;)

The Airborne Creed

I volunteered as a parachutist, fully realizing the hazard of my chosen service and by my thoughts and actions will always uphold the prestige, honor and high esprit-de-corps of parachute troops.

I realize that a parachutist is not merely a soldier who arrives by parachute to fight, but is an elite shock trooper and that his country expects him to march farther and faster, to fight harder, to be more self-reliant than any other soldier. Parachutists of all allied armies belong to this great brotherhood.

I shall never fail my fellow comrades by shirking any duty or training, but will always keep myself mentally and physically fit and shoulder my full share of the task, whatever it may be.

I shall always accord my superiors fullest loyalty and I will always bear in mind the sacred trust I have in the lives of the men I will accompany in to battle.

I shall show other soldiers by my military courtesy, neatness of dress and care of my weapons and equipment that I am a picked and well trained soldier.

I shall endeavor always to reflect the high standards of training and morale of parachute troops.

I shall respect the abilities of my enemies, I will fight fairly and with all my might, surrender is not in my creed.

I shall display a high degree of initiative and will fight on to my objective and mission, though I be the lone survivor.

I shall prove my ability as a fighting man against the enemy on the field of battle, not by quarreling with my comrades in arms or by bragging about my deeds.

I shall always realize that battles are won by an army fighting as a team, that I fight first and blaze the path into battle for others to follow and carry the battle on.

I belong to the finest unit in the world. By my actions and deeds alone, I speak for my fighting ability. I will strive to uphold the honor and prestige of my outfit, making my country proud of me and the unit to which I belong.

the greatest all time fighting force

i'm curious to know how to test this..

if you set up a free for all death match in say...
the state of texas

US army (excluding rangers) (485,500 soldiers on active duty and 591,000 in reserve)
vs.
marines (with 172,000 active and 40,000 reserve Marines as of 2005)
vs.
army rangers (a regiment of 2,000-3,000 if i'm not mistaken)
vs
the SEALs (<200).

the army is likely going to "win"
(after much harassment and attrition i'm sure)

add in the chair force,
and they get to win because of stealth bombers + warpigs/nukes.

how about, realistically a marine, a ranger, a seal, and an army puke get into a bar fight:
i know two marines and a ranger in real life.
i know a guy who tried out for seals,
and didn't make it.

out of those dudes,
the seal-wannabe is an amazing grappler
but my money would be on the ranger.
he's one of those subtle dudes.

I was referring to the force as a whole. I'd pick 10 Tunas over 20 mes in a gun and grenade battle anyday. He was advanced army infantry and I was a Field Network Technician. Though I was trained to serve as a basic rifleman and qualified as Expert with an M-16 my daily training in the fleet was for setting up and maintaining routers and servers... his daily training consisted probably on how best to kill bad guys.

They are some of the most laid back guys you'll ever meet. Also the most forgettable. They're very anonymous. Quiet, polite- the kind of guy you just look right past without a second glance. That, combined with their skills, makes them some of the scariest things walking this earth.

I'm in a LRSD- Long Range Surveillance Detachment. Our mission doesn't involve as much direct action- more covert infiltration for intelligence gathering, target acquisition, and other stuff. We often get confused with Rangers- in fact, we both descended for the same elements, the LRRPs. We got tasked to do some direct action in Mosul, but that's not the main focus of our teams.
