Been listening to Halford III: Winter Songs.
Yep, it's a Rob Halford Christmas album.
Probably the funniest shit I've heard since Pat Boone's metal album.

Ok, I've been kinda out of the Music news for a while, The last new Metal Band I've listened
to was around the MudVayne era. Need some newer good bands to listen to. Suggestions???
Also, I have a Love/Hate thing going on With Children Of Bodem. . .
They Got a Britney Spears song stuck in my head.

I think I'll let someone else handle this one.

Trepallium
Smoke
Textures
The Ocean
Gojira
Are all some more up to date metal bands you might want to lend your ear to KornGod.
I'm so proud of you guys (most of you) for managing to say the music he likes sucks in a nice way.
Suggestions???
First of all, you're an a-hole because now 'Mudvayne' is in my Google search history.
Second, yeah, Gojira is probably a good start for you.
For something that might help in seguing you in,
Try some of the German death metal bands like Neaera and Machinemade God's earlier stuff.
You might also try the Italian band Abel Is Dying.
Also, you need to listen to Mastodon - Remission.
you don't NEED to listen to mastodon, because then you'll want to see them live, and then you'll be disappointed. I would highly suggest you listen to remission, but then stop...
let's see here:
Mors Principum Est is a great band.
Devildriver is the fucking tits. Since you used to listen to numetal, you undoubtedly listened to coal chamber at some point, well their lead singer decided to stop being a vagina, devildriver is the result.
Ive always been a big fan of The Black Dahlia Murder. They're definately more uhhh, well, most people in this thread probably don't like them very much.
my .02, just youtube some shit...

Yeah, if you like Job for a Cowboy you should like Black Dahlia Murder.
BDM is a middle-school early high school thing for me.
I actually like Black Dahlia
Checked out Gojira. Me likes

Yeah, saw Gojira about a month ago, along with Zoroaster and Burst. Excellent show.
Check out Latitudes. Their debut album came out last month. It's fantastic.

I need to see Zoroaster again. Good guys, and great music.

High On Fire! Good call.
If you like slightly beardier/prog metal stuff check out Opeth for sure.

beardier
?
It means more prone to having beard(s), I think.
Opeth isn't beardy.
It's leatherpantsy.

True. I thought maybe you were questioning what beardier meant.
In other news, neologism has an awesome second definition.

I was, actually. I was unsure if beardy referred to the musicians, or the vocalist, or the fans, or the music in some abstract sense.
You've decided though?
First inclination is southern sludge.
Then viking/Gothenburg metal.
Not sure.

Or maybe it's an ill-conceived attempt to hide your gayness.
In which case Opeth fits the bill.

all awesome tracks. some of the tracks on the new album should be up on there on that list for sure.
i just gave that a listen for the first time last night. still have to give it time before i know what i think of it. probably come to the same conclusion that slayer is just not as classically awesome as they used to be
Just listened to W.A.S.P.'s new disc "Babylon".
It felt like it was 1986 all over again.

Here might lie your problem - these new songs are a throwback to that 'classic' era, but lyrically and musically are just as good as any of those old tracks. IMO this album is 'classic' era slayer - thats why i like it so much. Diabolus in musica, God hates us all or Christ Illusion this album aint.
I need the Iron Monkey box set.
Digging Whitebuzz.
what the fuck is that shit?
Haha
Sounds like Om.
The new Baroness rocks.
Good production too. It sounds like a rock record should

Decided to join the cool kids and listen to the new Slayer disc.
I dunno. Most of it sounded to me like they were just going through the motions. Only Psychopathy Red really hit me as having the energy of Slayer at their best. The rest isn't bad, but it just seems to lack focus.

there's some cool stuff on there but nothing that seizes me like the classic stuff. maybe it will grow on me but i'm not excited enough about it to listen a bunch
Yeah, it's definitely a "grower". I didn't care that much for it at first, but after a dozen spins, I'm really starting to like it. Not their best work by any stretch, but a solid album, definitely better than Christ Illusion or either of the mid-late 90s albums.

Hmmm. You may be influencing me to subject myself to some more of Araya's last nerve shredding vocals. But I will feel better knowing there won't be a guest appearance by Fred Durst or something on one of the tracks.
arayas vocals are actually quite good on this album (i was totally suprised)
The Haunted are supporting Slayer next week, fuck yeah!

Was listening to the new Nile finally yesterday. As some here had said, it is indeed wicked.
I gave a listen to "Njord" by Leaves' Eyes, because Amazon recommended it and they know from my purchase history that I'm a sucker for symphonic metal with an operatic female vocalist. (And I still want Sharon den Adel of Within Temptation to have my babbies.)
Didn't care for it at all. It sounded as if Britney Spears started singing for Nightwish.

Leaves Eyes singer(s) vocals are just over the top whispy. It seems like trying a bit too hard for the ethereal vibe. I listened to their Lovelorn cd on the recommendation of a buddy "If you like symphonic metal you're gonna love this shit!" and then ... oh, I see how this cd is...
This stuffs super subjective with a heavy dose of the to each his own factor, but I'd recommend trying out Epica if you haven't already. Atleast their vocalist can sing with a degree of range.

I have a question...could you put In Flames and Mors Pricipum Est in the same category, like melodic metal (if thats what it is called?).
The two bands have a lot of similarity

If that was your way of tricking me into listening to Mors Principium Est,
Well played.
Well played.
Sigh.
Mors Whatever is more symphonic and newer In Flames stuff has much more of a groove inclination.
... Okay, no, there it goes. They both have that.
But Mors Whatever has a female singing, too,
And unless you're a band like Salome,
That means bad.
