Secret Website

PC Pro MagazineOne of the Fazed moderators, jpkeates let me know that the site was mentioned in "PC PRO Magazine," the second largest PC magazine in the UK, with a circulation of 130,000 or so. Fazed is one of the 50 "Secret Websites -- The best websites you might never have heard of."

Fazed is more detrimental to office productivity than a power cut. Its stock in trade are those belly-laugh YouTube videos, staggering photos and heinously addictive Flash games.

Yet, unlike Trevor in Marketing, who regularly spams the entire company with videos You've Been Framed (UK TV Bloopers Show) would sneer at, the quality control at Fazed is awesomely high.

That's because, like Slashdot, it encourages reader submissions, but only allows sites approved by its eight administrators top adorn its home page. Search the archive for the Prank the Wife video for a morel of what to expect

Cool! I really appreciate the comment about the quality control, it's a tremendous amount of work to weed through a lot of the crap, and continue to provide a few interesting morsels.

I recently answered some interview questions for a popular magazine here in the states, so we'll see what happens there. It's weird, it seems like the site is getting more attention now than ever, even though it's relatively obscure in the sea of mega-sites that are similar in nature. I wonder if we're reaching a saturation point where people are gravitating back toward the small, hobby sites that built the Internet years ago? Being the dedicated little guy was cool back then, and it seems like it's becoming cool again today.

Why?

Ah, geez, I've had this song stuck in my head for a week now. Is it weird that it reminds me of the Beach Boys?

I made the song play by default on my lame MySpace page. Sorry! Listen here.

Fear, Loathing...

The Fazed Vegas 2007 trip has concluded, and was a wild success. JoLynn and I are feeling battered, bruised, and generally beat down, and it was awesome. I'm deeply thankful that so many interesting people frequent a site I built, and enjoy it enough to meet us in Vegas to party non-stop for 3 days.

Looking Back

I picked a random picture to edit with Photoshop tonight while testing some things. This is what I came up with. I can't say I loved much about Hawaii, but I never got sick of watching the sun set over the ocean.

It's In The Cans

The Mastrkrft remix of Wolfmother's "Woman" started playing, so I turned it up. I've got my Sennheiser 595's hooked to a Headroom Total Bithead, and even though I don't turn it up loud often, some songs definitely continue to sound better the louder they get. Well, one thing about these Senns, the backs are open, so they're noisy to people around me. Apparently so noisy that they woke up JoLynn in the other room, and kept her awake long enough that she got up and glared at me about the music being too loud. She looked surprised to see it was coming from the headphones. I was rocking out, and she totally ruined it. Maybe I need to get some in ear monitors for late night listening.

I got a coworker into headphone amps and good cans, and he's completely addicted now. He immediately bought better gear than I've been using for years, and he comes to work with a giant smile on his face every day. The guy is a freak for recordings of live Grateful Dead shows, and listening to them through a respectable setup is apparently a whole new experience. I knew he'd turn into an audio geek with enough coaxing, and it finally happened after a few years. It's exactly what he did to me after a year of telling me how bad our coffee was. The guy is a home roaster, and changed everything about the way I drink coffee. It's on par with good music in the headphones as the more enjoyable things I do from day to day.

JoLynn had her gall bladder removed last week, and has made a quick recovery. I had a good time taking care of her during the week while she was still down and out. I have a little experience with this, I nursed Colleen back to health after she had hers removed. That one came on a lot more suddenly, though, so the whole thing was a bit more of a surprise, with less time to prepare for it all. Now that Colleen is a local again, we have a lot of opportunities to hang out. She was quick to point that I'm bad luck for gall bladders. We'll see if Clint has any trouble with kidney stones so I can turn the joke back on her.

Disposable Thumb

Cutting your thumb off during a freak accident with an Xacto knife really makes you appreciate how often you use said digit. It's going to take forever for this thing to grow back! What's worse, is that it happened less than 5 minutes after another freak Xacto accident, in which a brand new, sharp blade snapped under pressure and shot me directly in the forehead. The amount of blood it produced was shocking. I was afraid to look, thinking I'd for sure need a hundred stitches. It ended up being a fairly small slice, but the force it hit me with makes me wonder if it didn't piece my skull. It fucking hurts.

March is the month of chemicals for me. My allergies are so bad, even with the steroid shot I got, I'm completely unable to function without large doses of pseudoephedrine. That stuff ruins me, and pretty much alters every memory that's created during its time in my system. That's how I remember March, this one and many before it. It's wearing me out. I recently watched the movie "Spun," and felt like I was part of it. Twitch.

Lost Dog

Update: The dog's owners rescued her right away. Happy ending!

This wild animal followed JoLynn home. She looked all over for its owner, but nobody was around. We ended up having to call the doggie police, and they took her to jail. She's beautiful though. We're tempted to adopt if nobody claims her, but she's kind of onery, as you can see.

Voltaic Crusher

I try to avoid posting lyrics to songs, but I just absolutely love Voltaic Crusher / Undrum to Muted Da, and think it's the best apology in a song ever.

Listen: Of Montreal - Voltaic Crusher / Undrum to Muted Da

I write a thousand songs for you a day
But I never run out of things to say
You're my Ulysses that I'll never end
Now that I fucked up, lost you, sweet friend

Everything is in the trash, and it's my fault
I've destroyed us, I know, it's unrecoverable
If there's a God he will repair your heart
If there's a God, send her an angel
Make him handsome and clever and not crazy
And you notice something wonderful
Someone to love her volcanically

And please, please, please God, don't be a bastard
Christ knows she deserves something nice for a change
Christ knows she deserves something nice for a change

I am a flaw, I'm a mistake
I am faulty, I always break
I tried, you don't believe me, but I did
I tried to mature, be responsible, dot dot dot
But my heart is juvenile
And my character's not so hot

You gave me your hand, I gave you a fist
Please don't lose any sleep over me, baby, I hardly exist

You gave me your hand, I gave you a fist
Please don't lose any sleep over me, baby, I hardly exist

You gave me everything, still I resist
Please don't lose any sleep over me, baby, I hardly exist
I hardly exist
